We spent an intense afternoon with Mike visiting different neighborhoods of Soweto and experiencing first hand daily life with local people in each settlement. A quick but overwhelming experience through history, social life and culture - From Mandela House, to Hector Pieterson Museum, from match-box houses to Soweto Gold breweries to Orlando Stadium.
Mike was open to comment and tell us about his perspective on South Africa which helped us understanding which land we were treading on. Try it if you are in Johannesburg, even if for just half a day.

I was hosted recently by KDA Travel on a trip to watch the Joburg Ladies Open Golf Tournament at the newly revamped Soweto Country Club.
What a fantastic day out walking the new course and watching some great golf and then touring Soweto! Really looking forward to returning and experiencing this new facility first hand on a golf tour with mates.
Popped into Robby’s Place located just across the road from the course which will be an awesome place for a couple of beers and a meal after a round.
I was taken to Orlando West to see some of the famous sites around Vilakazi Street and enjoyed a delicious beer tasting at the Soweto Brewery. Also visited the little crèche in the Diepkloof Hostel and interacted with these cute kids and the teachers. All in all an enjoyable day in this fascinating, diverse township and for golfers combining the Soweto experience with a round on a top course I think it’s going to be a real winner!

There were 5 of us that went on the day tour of Soweto & Joburg. Mike (guide) & Thami (driver) were exceptional! We only had the day for the tour since we were on a connecting flight home in the late evening. Mike sat in the seats by us and it felt like we were in someone's living room listening to someone tell us the tale of Soweto & Johannesburg. Since Mike grew up in Soweto we enjoyed hearing about his experiences too. We went to many places and learned so much during our time with Mike. We topped off the evening in the very cool Maboneng area where we actually went to "The Living Room"! Beautiful view of a wonderful City!

We had 34 people in our group from Minnesota. Mike was with us for three nights and four days. He impressed ever single member of our group. His leadership is rooted in his intelligence and knowledge--book smarts and street smarts. He is funny, humble, flexible, and loves to connect with people and places.
The day-long Soweto tour was magnificently inspiring and informational. From the million-dollar homes to the informal settlements of Kliptown, Mike connected us to the people and places beyond the typical tours. The Kliptown Youth Program is incredibly inspiring and provides so much hope and opportunity.
The following day centered around the Aparthied Museum and Constitution Hill followed by a group meal at Nandos. So much to learn!
The last day we stayed in Maboneng at the CurioCity Youth Hostel. This "Forbes top 20" global neighborhood and folks associated with the hostel were so damn cool and impressive. The artists, chefs, designers, and other entrepreneurs driving these creative turn-around spaces provide an authentic, world class experience like no others.
Since Mike lives in Maboneng he is like the mayor, the journalist, and the friendly general all at once. He is a connector and goes way beyond the call of duty in everything he does.
I strongly recommend KDA and Mike!

Me and partner booked the half day Soweto tour with Mike the day we flew back home. Mike was a great guide, very knowledgable and informative, an amazing person who opened up and shared his story while showing us around Soweto. After having a bad experience with a tour company the day before this tour, Mike was so generous to spend 7 hours introducing us to the culture and everyday life in Soweto even though we booked the half day tour. He took us to all the places listed on the website and even more (I am saying this as the other tour company said they don’t visit and stop at all places mentioned on the tour, they just drive by!!!)
The experience with the children at the development project KDA is running and at Kliptown Youth Project is beyond any words. I am so grateful having visited Soweto and having met Mike as our guide. I will definitely recommend Mike to anyone visiting SA! Thank you Mike, it was a real pleasure meeting you.

The beauty of the tour with Michael is that you get up close and personal with the people and the area. Michael grew up in Soweto. He takes you to places that the large tour buses just drive by. We had the opportunity to see both sides of Soweto, to see first hand how they live, to visit a kindergarten, as well as to visit the Mandela house and the Pieterson Museum. And to top it off, we stopped at a local bar where we had the opportunity to taste sorghum beer. I am quite confident that you will not see sorghum beer on any craft beer menus back in the States!

Reading about Johannesburg you easily get an idea that it is all unsafe. Our experience, being a middle age couple from Europe, is the opposite. Yes the inequality is there, great richness and great poverty. And you need to be aware, as you would in any great city. We booked this tour via the Internet, not knowing what to expect - and it turned out to be so much more than our expectations. Fantastic Mike made the tour to be an oriented tour to meet our curiosity of the country and the people. What an experience! All the senses where there, so rewarding! We met these adorable children and fantastic volunteers in the poorest part ot Soweto. It makes one humble. We passed som fantastic museums and we ended our day in CBD. Fantastic! so vibrant. We felt so welcomed, Everyone was so warm and friendly. And Mike! a cliff when on a tour with this outstanding company. This was a life time lasting tour and Big Mike made it possible. Thank you for this amazing day! All the best for you all!

This is a tour everyone should do when arriving in Joberg. Mike was amazing and gave so much information about past and present Joberg. We also saw many areas of the city. The best meal of my two week trip was a local bbq. Meet so many beautiful people of Soweto doing incredible things in the local community.

KDA booked a half day Soweto tour with our guide, Mike. It was a wonderful, personalized tour that gave us a picture of the diversity of Soweto. Highlights included the youth centre in Kliptown, a visit to Percy's home, Hector Pieterson Museum and the visit to Nelson Mandela's house. Mike is very knowledgeable and provided insightful explanations of history, sociology and politics.

I have been on a Soweto Tour before but this one is tailor-made to the preferences your group. Total value-added service provided by Soweto-born tour guide Mike, who is friendly, professional and hugely knowledgable, and brings the subject matter to life in an entertaining way. Soweto was at the turning point of one the most momentous events in the history of mankind and well worth a visit.
The tour also included a most enjoyable visit to Tinti's Butcher Shop and Grill for a superb 'Chesa Nyama' barbecue grill lunch and concluded with sundowners in the edgy Maboneng district of downtown Johannesburg. Highly recommended!
