Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The theater inside has beautiful changed over the years. It's a pity it's not in a good spot anymore although safe parking and a high presence of security. Well done guys. The shows they put on is stunning and of a high standard. Very impressive. Thanks.

A lovely old fashioned theatre tucked away in the old potato shed district just over the Nelson Mandela bridge. Well within walking distance of the Sci Bono centre and the Africa museum. The Mannie Manim theatre gives a real experience of being in the play, absorbed in the action. A wee bar as you enter is a good place to congregate and meet your friends. Parking is in secure multi storey. The theatre attracts high quality directors and actors and should not be missed.

This theatre reminds of areas gone by with red velvet seats, a coffee area and various theatres tucked away in the building.

Keep an eye on their website for upcoming shows as a lot of the shows tend to be on for a short period of time. I've watched some great pieces here over the last years.

Parking is at the Newtown mall and you walk a short distance to the theatre. There are various restaurants and coffee shops in the area if you want to get something to eat or drink before the show starts.

No trip to Johannesburg is complete without attending a show at the Market Theatre! The history of the theatre reflects the role of arts in the struggle against apartheid. Today, this legacy of socially conscious and relevant art in the form of plays, music, poetry, dance etc continues to address challenges emerging from lived realities of communities in contemporary South Africa. Thus the arts 'speak' about contemporary life and therefore qualify to be the 12th language of South Africa! The Market Theatre is also popular amongst residents in Johannesburg including me and provides opportunities for interaction with locals! It is situated next to a shopping mall with restuarants, parking and hotel.

What a riveting one man show. Brilliant monologue with lighting that was used with brilliant effect. The actor Graham Weir did not miss a beat, he told the tales and portrayed each character with such finesse. A great night out which should not be missed. A brilliant piece of theatre in a style not often used. Terrific

This is the second trip to the market theatre and, once again, a lovely experience. The piece was in a smaller theatre that forms part of the market theatre complex - friendly staff - well kept and clean.

Plan ahead and grab something to eat at the Newton Junction across the road.

Something to put on your to-do list

As a Millenial, i have not had the opportunity of living in the 1950s. The fashion, the music, togetherness and underground lifestyle of Kofifi was what i yearned to see. Market Theatre has brought so much of this Era back into my age. Or lets say I was taken into a time machine and my joy burst out from its capsule in my heart having visited this era where my grand parents and parents once related stories of old.

The talent at Market Theatre is amazing. I cry often when at the climax of these stories.
