Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I really love this forest. The walk is really stunning and very easy to reach by uber/car as you practically can acces the path straight. During the day -and especially weekends- there are many people around so its great to walk then! The forest path is a bit hilly, but absolutely nice with the high trees, the waterfall at the end and the amazing serenity, you almost forget that you are in Cape Town as it feels such a different place. Take note that hiking together is much more apricated in terms of the safety conditions, also take your own drinks and food as well.

This is a wonderful forest to walk in and can also take you directly into the botanical gardens if you take that route.
The pathway is not clear so make sure you know where you going. We were lucky that our local friend took us for the hike.
The walk is really great with different scenery and walk paths along the way.
The long walks is tough and have many different terrain.
Take water with you.
The walk is around 3 hours

This forest is set at the back of Table Mountain and has the most magnificent appeal. The trees abound and there are waterfalls. One can climb up the back of Table Mountain to the top and get to the other side and dgo down in the cable car. There are an abundant flora and the flora is magnificant. So quiet and one can walk through without seeing anybody under the shade of the numerous trees. Well worth a visit. Kirstenbosch Gardens are close by and also offer a wondeerful experience of gardens. Newlands Forests are wild but so inviting. A great time to relax and enjoy.

It is not a walk without some effort as it is on the side of Table Top Mountain. One can avoid some of the climbs by walking the contour paths . The conifer plantations are majestic. There are some views over Newlands and further but not the best in the area. There is a huge water cistern for fire fighting (helicopter tank refill etc) that is used as a local swimming pool.

Its a strenuous walk with quite a bit of climbing and scrambling over rocks, but the view and the smells help you to not concentrate on the effort required. Good pair of shoes required as rocks are quite slippery in places.

I'm a regular hiker in Newlands, after work or early on a weekend morning, and despite the qualms of some, I can safely say it's my favourite hiking spot in the city and easily beats out Kirstenbosch in my books - though the approach is admittedly somewhat different.
There are a plethora of beautiful hiking trails of varying degrees of difficulty, but all could quite easily be attempted by amateurs, as long as you have your wits about you. My favourite is the hike up Newlands ravine, to the top of one of the lower points of table mountain. At a certain level, you suddenly stop hearing the highway, and past that it's pure bliss as you ascend towards a lovely view all the way over to Cape Town Stadium.
Crime has been an issue here before, but if you're streetwise, not alone and have your wits about you, you're unlikely to run into issues. Bonus points if you swim in the freezing could mountain river as it runs down the gorge (try doing this further up, for a cleaner swim), and if you know any budding mycologists, I hear that there are some mushroom foraging parties that frequent this spot (please take utmost care as we all know how dangerous this can be).

By far the most beautiful forest in Cape Town. Such a pleasure taking a meander through here and enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Newlands Forest is quite popular for hikers and the runners. It is on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain. It is a nature conservancy area and you can enter the area for free. The main attraction in Newlands is unusual endangered flora, a couple variants of endemic fynbos. The woodcutters path in one section creates a form of a boardwalk. There is also a section of "commercial forest" with invasive planted species. The hiking is easy but if you need a challenge go up to Contour trail which connects with Kirstenbosch and Table Moutain.
