The Cheetah Centre in South Africa was established in 1971, initially as a cheetah breeding project and the Centre has during the past 40 years bred over 800 cheetah cubs. Various conservation projects have been initiated since its inception which also inlcudes a successful African wild dog breeding programme. Known in the past as the De Wildt Cheetah Centre the name has recently been changed to the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre as a tribute to the woman who has devoted her life to the survival of the cheetahs as well as other rare and endangered species

I loved this place, lots of Cheetahs & wild dogs. It's a sanctuary not a game reserve so it's to look after the animals. Very educational place.

Quite near to Hartebeespoort and definitely worth a visit. A group of us (most in from UK & Ireland for work) took a few hours off and visited AvD Cheetah centre doing the Ambassador experience. The tour highlights the great work done for conservation and you get to see the animals up close. Got to meet and touch Shaka the... More

The animals are not free wild ones, but almost. It is a wonderful experience, and not only for the cheetahs.

Having made the trip over to South Africa every two years for the past 6 and having lived on the Eastern Cape for the majority of my childhood, I never expected a wildlife center to catch my interest all that much until I encountered the knowledgeable and genuinely lovely people at Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre. I took my girlfriend... More

I had heard that visiting the Ann Van Dyk/De Wildt Cheetah Centre was a really special experience so I made arrangements to spend time there. The tour starts at 8:00 so I got there early enough to sign in and have a cup of coffee. We were gathered together for a brief lecture and then we walked to an open... More
