Experience nature’s grandeur at the KwaZulu-Natal National Botanical Garden...

Experience nature’s grandeur at the KwaZulu-Natal National Botanical Garden in Pietermaritzburg. This garden’s Victorian past is evident in its magnificent specimens of northern hemisphere plants. One of the most dramatic features is the majestic avenue of London Plane Trees.

Excellent venue for day walks and very good hiking trails. Paid just under 100 bucks for 2 adults and 2 kids and a 1 pager map which was nice. I am deeply disturbed because it... read more

In December 2016, we had our year end function at the Botanical Garden. It has a nice area for braai where you can just bring your staff and do a picnic. Even as family, friends this could be the best place for you. It has play area for children eg. trampoline, swings. You can pre book for functions like weddings... More

The basic layout of the gardens remains good as does the avenue of London Plane trees but the gardens are forlorn and in need of maintenance. There were no maps or guides available. In addition, when we visited at lunch time, the restaurant was shut so there was no availability of food or drinks. We had travelled a distance to... More

It's been a while since I walked here but I used to love going in the early mornings and roaming about in the hills and picking wild granadillas and Cape gooseberries - yum! There are magnificent trees from all over the world, and a lovely avenue of oaks, where the local pipers (used to?) play on an occasional Sunday afternoon.... More

Excellent venue for day walks and very good hiking trails. Paid just under 100 bucks for 2 adults and 2 kids and a 1 pager map which was nice. I am deeply disturbed because it seems that tis is one of the many national parks that with ancient heritage that seems to be slowly degrading - the standards are slipping.... More

Kids will like walking among the butterflies. Spend a couple of hours there and be sure to use a guide - you not know what to or where to look without one.

We went on a Sunday and took our dogs with which is nice that they allow you.It was a bit overgrown and all the signs for the plants were damaged. The pond also smelt really bad which is a shame because my dogs love water so we had to try keep them out.It had like a green sludge on it.People... More

The Pietermaritzburg Botanical Gardens is vast, serene and offers an amazing space to rekindle one's love for Nature. It has many lovely features, nice look out points, makes for a healthy long stroll through many scenic pathways and is a blossoming paradise at different times of the year, depending on which part of the gardens you're in. After all, Pietermaritzburg's... More

Time out with the family for a picnic, a function perhaps? The Botanical gardens in PMB is the place. Serenity within the city buzz. It's so calming and refreshing. We don't see nature often in our busy schedules so just take the time out to relax in the weekend with your family or hire one of the venues for a... More

Love coming to the Botanical gardens as I can bring my dog for a leisuely walk right round the park feeling safe, stopping off to drift off watching the wildlife by the lake and then taking out a picnic basket lunch on the lawns available. Take what ever you need as the resturant is not really geared for selling takeout... More

Very disappointing. After paying 22 rand entry, the least I would have expected was to have been issued with a simple map of the gardens or be able to pay for a guide book showing the various areas or access to a displayed layout.Nothing of the sort was available and we were left to,our own devices to,walk around. As previous reviewers have...
