Alexandra Park

This park is terrible, poor maintenance, filth and lots of drunk people. The cars double park with little or no regard for other motorists.

Use to be quite a nice park to go to but now it is so filthy. Would need to probably get a tetnus shot once venturing near there. Its alright if there are big events going on because it gets cleaned up and sorted out otherwise don't waste your fuel getting there.

Unfortunately this area is no longer safe. It is OK if there is a special event going on (flea market, start of a fun run) but do not walk in it or run though it in small groups (certainly not alone). The road that runs though it from College to Alexandra road has huge speed bumps so drive very slowly

What was once a cheerful spot for family outings has become a dilapidated safehaven for criminals. Would not recommend

The park itself was laid out very well. However what could have been a beautiful attraction for the Capital City has been taken over by vagrants, loiterers and worse! The litter is overwhelming, the gardens unkempt and it is not safe for anybody, least of all young children for whom it used to be a wonderful playground. A great sadness!

Keep your guards on at all times. even though it is a pleasant place, you have to be cautious of where you go.....especially if going nearer to the Dusi River. Stay in groups....but enjoy the beautiful landscape. Cricket fans thrill on the OVAL. The landscape staff are very helpful....got some free fire wood for the braai/barbecue from them, and another... Alexandra Park is not a tourist attraction at all. Its not maintained and frankly not safe. Please avoid this "attraction".

What could be a delightful place for a walk, particularly next to the river, has degenerated into a shabby, untidy, and unattractive open park. We stayed in my vehicle and drove from one side to the other side, with a stop at the pavilion which is walled and gated. It is not recommended to walk around, unless in a largish... More

What once was a beautiful place is now sadly neglected and a place to be avoided. It is unsafe, dirty and overgrown. I could be one of the star features in Pietermaritzburg as I am sure it was, with the Umzindusi river running through it, quaint pedestrian bridges to cross the river and the historical cricket Oval and Bandstand. The... More
