- Catherine M2 contributionsAMAZING, we saw the Big Five and even moreWe just came back from a 5 days safari with Rufus, our INCREDIBLE guide. Our experience was just amazing. We saw the big five and even more (Chetas and wild dogs). Rufus is a sweat, caring, he has and answer to all are questions. He knows everything about the animals, the birds and the nature. He is a guide since 17 years and he loves his job as if it was the first day. And he is a very good cook. So if you booked with Wild Wings ask for Rufus, the best!!!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 October 2023
- Moira BBedfordshire, United Kingdom18 contributionsA fantastic first safari trip - we are hooked! We booked the 5 day, 4 night combo safari trip which was a fantastic experience. From making an initial enquiry, Mike provided helpful information and answered all of my questions. The trip was well organised and the admin information was very clear and helpful. Our first two nights were spent in the Kruger National Park staying at Szukuza camp. Nicky our guide was superb. Her knowledge about the wildlife and flora in the KNP was fantastic and she went out of her way to try to locate different animals on each game drive. She even cooked for us - great breakfasts and evening meals. Our second two nights were at Arathusa private lodge in Sabi Sands which again was excellent. Would definitely recommend Wild Wings and the combo trip is a great way for a first safari trip!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 October 2023

- Pat Dooze15 contributionsGreat safariTerrific safari with Rufus. We were fortunate to see all the animals we wanted to see except missed the cheetah but wow what amazing views and such close up encounters. How lucky were we to have such a dedicated guide, well organized, great cook, always a smile. Thanks for a really good experience.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 October 2023
- Justeen W10 contributionsRufus the Wild Wings Guide Made Our TripOur Wild Wings guide Rufus was the greatest guide in the world. He was so entertaining and amazingly knowledgeable. He gave me a university level education on Kruger Park including birds, animals, plants and ecology. He seemed to know more than any guide I have ever encountered. I learned the names of over 40 different birds as well as the large animals that are so awe inspiring. And we always had a good time! We saw more big animals than I thought possible in our 5 day safari. Rufus was so perceptive of all our needs and arranged the safari in a way everyone could get the most out of it. A birder couldn’t do better and we saw all the big animals on every drive. If you are a gardener and interested in the plant life of Africa, Rufus can point out all the amazing plants and what they were used for by hunter gatherers. He was also very considerate, helpful and understanding of anyone who has a special concern. I was blown away by Wild Wings ability to arrange the trip of a lifetime!Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 17 November 2023
- Madeleine M1 contributionOne of the best experiences of our livesWe did the 5 Day Kruger Park and Private Lodge Safari with Wild Wings, and it was absolutely incredible. I’ll start with our guide, Nicky. She was simply fantastic, her knowledge of the animals was second to none and her enthusiasm was infectious. She made the whole safari seamless and had so much energy and passion for her job. If we were keen to have a quick lunch and head straight back out on a drive, she was just as keen to do so. She cared so much about us seeing animals and experiencing them in different situations. The accommodation in Kruger itself was basic, but completely fine. We had a lovely dinner together in the campsite so we were only ever in our accommodation to sleep. Our private lodge, Kambaku River Sands, was next level – we have never stayed anywhere like it. The accommodation was spectacular and the staff were amazing. Our room looked out to the back of the lodge where elephants would cross on their way to drink from the lodge swimming pool. Having the combination of both Kruger and the private safari lodge was just perfect. It was great to have the experience of Kruger, to see large amounts of animals, but then the private lodge to really get up close to the cats. We could have stayed a whole extra week doing the same drives, it was so special. Thank you to the entire team at Wild Wings Safaris, it was honestly one of the best weeks of our lives. We cannot wait to get in touch in the future to book another!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 December 2023
- Katy F4 contributions11/10 Experience! My husband and I leveraged Wild Wings Safaris services when planning our Honeymoon in South Africa. We came upon the company through a recommendation for a friend and we are so glad we did! We really wanted to do a safari on our trip but we were overwhelmed by planning this component. We were put in contact with Mike Malan at the company who helped plan the safari of our dreams! He provided an outstanding recommendation for a lodge and even secured us a discount and extra perks for our honeymoon. He set up airport transfers and gave us clear guidance on how to prepare for the trip. Throughout the process his communication was prompt and clear. We had such an amazing time on the safari that I cried when we left! Please use Wild Wings for your planning - you won't regret it.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 December 2023
- Anna KWarsaw, Poland12 contributionsAmazing experience during 5 Day Kruger safariWe took a 5 days Best of Kruger safari with Wild Wings Safari and it was one of the best experiences in our lives. Nicky was our guide and she was doing her best to make sure that we have a great time and see as much as possible. She is very cheerful, helpful and energetic person and has outstanding knowledge about animals and Kruger Park itself. Nicky is also an excellent cook, breakfasts and dinners that she has prepared for us were delicious, we didn’t expect that. I also appreciated help and all the tips provided by Michael. When I first contacted him he spent over an hour on the phone with me to explain everything and recommend the best options not only for safari but our trip in South Africa in general. I definitely recommend to book a guided-tour for a safari rather than make a self-drive because it makes a huge difference in terms of overall experience. Sitting in an open car with great visibility boosts your reception of nature. Moreover it is totally worth to book a 5 days option as your chances of spotting different animals increases significantly. You also have an opportunity to visit central/northern part of the park which is even more beautiful. Thank you Wild Wings safari for an amazing service and safari of our dreams which we will never forget!Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 January 2024

Here’s why: Clare’s coordination of our safari and prompt communication set the tone for our trip. We felt like we were in good, solid, professional hands from the start. This professionalism, warmth and “heart” carried through to our Safari experience with Simon, Nicky and Doug. Our Safari experience truly exceeded our expectations. We got to see the Big 5, went on a bush walk and night drive. Our guides were a blast and were so knowledgeable. Having Doug cook our delicious meals was a delight. We appreciated his thoughtful menu choices and preparation. Our family/group meals together was a highlight. Wow wow wow ! Our 5 day/4night safari , the best of Kruger experience was beyond our wildest dreams . The animals were amazing, we saw 2 cheetahs kill a large impala, a pride of lions feeding at a buffalo kill, numerous herds of elephants, leopards, all the big 5 in one day giraffes fighting, crocodiles, jackals , impala, lots of different antelope, hippos ,hyenas, tortoises and so much more . The night drive and bush walk were great too .At times it felt like being on the set of a National Geographic documentary. Simon, South Africa’s “ Crocodile Dundee” was amazing and so knowledgeable on the animals but also the huge variety of birds within the park. He made the trip so special with his sense of humour too. The accommodation at both the camps was lovely and John the chef who cooked for us was first rate, giving wonderful descriptions of food he’d prepared for us. It really was a trip of memories that will live with my husband and myself forever. Thankyou so much Simon and the team for such a great trip !

Wild Wings Safaris helped us plan and book an itinerary for our entire 8 day / 7 night Kruger area trip, with guidance on what our family (with kids aged 9 and 11) would most enjoy. Clare was very receptive to our emails even though we booked a bit late in the season, and set up several virtual calls with us to talk through our wishes and best options. She planned our full trip for us perfectly, and we could not have been happier with experience, including the 3 night Wild Wings guided safari within Kruger (reviewed below).
We had an amazing safari experience with our Wild Wings guide, Rufus. As a guide with 18 years experience in Kruger, he was incredibly knowledgeable and interesting and was particularly good with our kids. He also served as our cook for each day, which we didn't expect, and made excellent meals for us that he ate along with us - which made the tour very personal! We would recommend the Wild Wings safari highly. It was a terrific experience.
For families with kids, don't underestimate the cold morning drives. When you factor in the wind that goes along with driving in an open vehicle at dawn, you'll want to bundle the kids up, especially around the face. There were blankets in the car, which was great, but plan accordingly. (We traveled in July, which was the start of winter.)
Also, I recommend getting a private trip if you're going as a family. It was special having the vehicle to ourselves, and our kids felt completely free to be themselves and ask as many questions as they wanted!

Words cannot express how grateful I am for Madi at Wild Wings Safari. I did a lot of research with different companies and prices and wild wings was the best and most flexible. Madi was so patient with me (I'm a pretty indecisive and detail oriented person) and in the end we came up with the perfect plan. And then unforeseen problems arose and we had to cancel our trip. However, everything aligned last minute and Madi was able to make our trip come true again and rebooked everything about a month away! She was so calm and patient and comforting through the whole planning process. It was stressful canceling and rebooking but she never made me feel rushed or forced. Also, I loved all of her recommendations for specific price points. We were able to see the Big 5 in 5 days of being there. It was a quick trip and were able to do Nthambo tree camp (unique experience) and Arathusa (Out of this world 1st class experience). Even our transport guides between airport and lodges were amazing. Do not hesitate to book with Madi at Wild Wings Safari (you can tell she loves her job and wants to create a memorable experience for you). I do recommend getting travel insurance too just in case unforeseen things happen.

Wild Wings is an amazing tour company who gave us the trip of a lifetime. We did a 6 night custom safari with the add on bush walk, night drive, abs panorama tour on the drive back to Jo’burg.
Kruger National Park is every bit of a dream African safari. We stayed in three park campsites: Skukuza, Satara, and Berg-en-Dahl. Pictures cannot truly show the splendor of the savannah. Long drive days in the open air truck revealed herds of elephant, giraffe, Cape buffalo, zebra, and wildebeest. We drove for 15 minutes next to a pride of 11 lions walking up and down the road. A mother elephant flexed on us as we drove too close to her baby. We witnessed two full mane male lions eating a Cape buffalo and a leopard in a tree devouring the impala he killed and carried to the fall branches to avoid scavengers. We saw him carry the impala down the tree clenched in his jaw to move from the hyenas below the tree. A mother and baby rhino walked directly across our path feet from us.
Watering holes full bathing, yawning, and snorting hippos; shorelines covered in dozens of crocodiles; herds of sable antelope, kudu, and impala. Pod after pod of playful and curious chacma baboons and vervet monkeys. And oh, the wart hogs that got Hakuna Matata stuck in my head over and over. And I haven’t even mentioned the mongoose, hornbills, fish eagles, ostrich, vulture and more. So much more.
The perfect trip ended gloriously with a panorama drive through the Drakkensberg Mountains and Blyde Canyon River. This add-on showed us SA splendor that we didn’t know existed.
Thank you Clare at Wild Wings Safari for all of the emails coordinating this trip. And a huge thank you to our Barefoot guide, Simon for his expertise, driving skills, and amazing cooking. We couldn’t have asked for a more special, personalized experience.
We traveled with some serious Covid lockdowns in place in the country. Everything was still perfect.

If you are looking to go on a safari in South Africa, you would regret NOT going with Wild Wings.
The booking process was seamless, tailored to individual needs and well organised.
The information provided at the time of booking was spot on.
Constant communication from the day of enquiring up until the day we were picked up in Johannesburg.
The safari is perfect for the those on a budget and also has options to upgrade if that’s what you wish.
We did not upgrade and the hospitality and experience was second to none.
Simon the guide - where do I start…
He has previously trained other safari guides and his knowledge is clear from the moment you meet him.
I am sure after the trip it must have felt like an interrogation from me. I asked non stop questions to which all were answered and explained in depth with a good sense of humour added.
We booked the 5 day Kruger trip and could have stayed on for another week.
Simon went above and beyond with tracking and finding animals such as the cheetah and rhino. Both of which are lightly spread throughout out the park.
Although he has been guiding for 20+ years, his excitement for every sighting was clear for all to see.
Our drives were usually 5am - 9am, then breakfast then back out at 11am-6pm.
Everyone decided if they wanted to go out for that long with some opting to go for a later drive in the day when the temperatures dropped.
Simon was happy to accommodate for all.
The trip was filled with humour, insightful knowledge on the natural world and good moral throughout.
I have recommended to friends and family whilst currently planning my return trip.
Two members of our party were on their 8th Safari in Kruger with Wild wings!!!

This was aswell as numerous birds and antelope.
Any safari in Southern Africa will now always be booked through Wild Wings.

We were a family of 5 and did a 3 nights/4 days Safari, in day 3 we went to the Panorama route. The experience was so much above our expectations that it is hard to find words to describe it. Frank was our guide, and we feel so lucky we had the privilege of being his guests for this trip. He is such a welcoming man, so nice, an amazing guide and a very experienced one. We learned so much from him and enjoyed hearing his stories, kept asking for more. Each game drive we took was exciting and he definitely had a big part in that. Doug, also so welcoming and nice cooked for us the best meals taking in consideration our dietary requirement (vegetarian gluten free) and we enjoyed his food and his company so much.
Jerald took us to a lovely day at the Panaroma route and he too was so welcoming and nice.
The entire safari was so well organized, our transports were on time in comfortable vehicles and welcoming drivers.
We highly recommend on wild wing safaris and we can't wait to be back…

From start to finish, the trip was insane, from the get go there were no issues arranging the perfect dates, the length of the stay or choices of accommodation. Ilaria and I spent far more than most would deem necessary emailing back and forth making sure absolutely everything was perfect. From the moment I landed in Kenya I was greeted at the airport by the team and from then on, totally hands off on my part, everything was thought through by them. Once we arrived into the Mara it just kept getting better. James my guide was one of the most knowledgeable and thorough guides I've met while being super chilled out and great fun to be around, to the point I can't think of anyone I'd want more for my next guide, he also had an interest in photography so we spent time between drives going over each others photos to see what we each managed to capture! He knew exactly the best spots to go and how to get there as well as the ideal times to leave the camps and hotels to make sure we'd be one of the first out there for sunrise and being the first out there to see the wildlife on the morning hunts. I genuinely cannot rate this trip highly enough and will be planning another visit as soon as I can.

We booked our entire safari trip through Wild Wings and were completely satisfied with the quality, professionalism and overall experience. Mike Malan of Wild Wings crafted a well balanced itinerary that included the Wild Wings 5 day Kruger visit along with other destinations we wanted to see (Sabi Sands, Victoria Falls and Chobe River). Mike took our input, made suggestions and we settled on a trip that had lots of diverse settings and locations. Communiction was always prompt and efficient and even though we had to delay our trip a couple times (Covid shutdowns), Mike was there to rebook, work with the lodges and keep us informed. During our Kruger stay, Rufus was our Wild Wings guide, chef, tracker, friend and all around great guy. He was phenomenal at spotting wildlife and identifying birds/animals. If you think you can spot animals in the bush like he can, you're kidding yourself, it was unreal. We enjoyed the company of other guests and it made for fun game viewing and dinners by our Kruger cottages. When the next phase of our safari started, Mike arranged all ground transfers and logistics to get us from one camp to the next. We arranged flights but there was always a transfer waiting for us when we arrived at the next destination.
Wild Wings and their entire team gave us peace of mind and allowed us to enjoy our safari wonders and the amazing people of South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

I had the most incredible 5 day safari just before Christmas. It was my first time in South Africa and first time doing a safari. The trip was even better than I could have ever imagined. The information and service from my very first inquiry many months ago until the end of my safari was first class. The accommodation at both camps was great and it was amazing to stay in the heart of the park. I couldn’t believe how many amazing sightings we had (big 5x2 and so many more) and our guide Simon was so passionate and knowledgeable (not to mention a fab chef) with the most incredible eye for spotting animals. He made the trip so personal and fun for our wee group. Wish I could do it all again! I Would not hesitate to recommend wild wings to anyone looking for an incredible safari experience.

We did a 4 day Kruger Park tour in March 2023 and it was incredible! Clare was our agent who was very prompt at replying and the organisation was seamless. Rufus was our guide / chef - he made tasty meals and made sure we were the first out the gate each morning. Rufus has a very good eye and knows the park well as we saw EVERYTHING we hoped to: lions, leopards, rhinos, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, elephants, hyenas, wild dogs, hippos AND a honey badger! When I showed an interest in spotting birds he also made sure to look out for and point out as many as he could. You’d be very lucky to have him as your guide! Would 10/10 recommend using Wild Wings Safari.

Hi, we are planning to travel 8 (two teenagers) and get an safari, I want to learn how much will it cost for 3 or 5 days. thank you
Written 8 October 2019
Hi there, it's great to hear that you are planning a safari with your teenagers! At the moment (October 2019) our 3 day Kruger Park open vehicle safaris cost ZAR 8,900 per person (about $590 USD). This includes return road transfers from Johannesburg. The 5 day safari currently costs ZAR 14,200 (about $940 USD). Again this includes return road transfers from Johannesburg, as well as a guided bush walk and night drive.
The annual rates increase from SANParks is on 1 November, so these rates will go up after 1 November but we do offer an early bird discount if you book more than 4 months in advance.
What I would recommend is that you send an enquiry via our website so we can send you a free quote with no obligation to book. I can't give you the email or website details here, but you can easily find us on google.
We look forward to hearing from you!

We try to cater to all dietary requirements, which includes gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, Kosher and Halal, within certain limits. We offer what we call Halal friendly catering, which is not strict Halal or certified Halal, as we do not maintain a Halal kitchen or separate set of equipment. But we can purchase Halal food and will prepare food separately within the limits of what is possible and practical during a safari. Please discuss your dietary requirements with us before your trip, and we will let you know to what extent we can meet those requirements.

Hi! My family and I (2 adults/2 kids aged 13 and 10) will be in Hazyview next September. We'd like to do a Sunset Safari on September 20 and a full day Safari on September 21 or 22. Do you offer this kind of services? If so, could you please let me know what the costs would be? Thanks!

Hi Claudia, no we don't offer day drives into Kruger. It is much better to stay inside the Kruger Park and our safaris typically include your accommodation in Kruger, as well as all game drives. If you're staying outside the park in Hazyview, you would have to use one of the day tour operators that offer day safaris into Kruger. There are many of them, some better than others. The one I would recommend is The Other Animals Safaris.

hello, we are staying in hodspruit. we are interested in eary morning big 5 safari drive , do you provide pickup from our area?what is the price for a group tour? how many pepole in a group? what is the price for private tour?

Unfortunately we do not pick up from the Hoedspruit area for day trips, only for longer itineraries. We primarily sell safari packages and multi-day tours, not standalone morning game drives. We can arrange day trips into Kruger from the Hazyview area but in Hoedspruit you are better off contacting another local operator. Usually we do not recommend staying outside Kruger and going in for the day. It may be cheaper but it is not the same as staying inside Kruger. Day visitors can only start their game drive later and have to queue at the gate along with other self-drive tourists.

I will be Joburg on May 27 and leaving May 30th. My husband and I want to do a two day safari. What is the cost? And what does it include? What time can we get picked up from the airport?
Thanks.
Written 27 March 2019
Hi Marie, it will depend on what time you can depart on May 27 and what time you need to be back on May 30.
Our scheduled small group safaris depart from Johannesburg airport or surrounding hotels at around 7 am on the first day, and return to Johannesburg by about 5 pm on the last day. Maximum group size of 9.
So if you have all day available on the 27th and 30th you can fit in a 3-night / 4-day Kruger Park safari. Else you can do a 2-night / 3-day safari.
A 3-day Kruger Park open vehicle safari costs ZAR 8900 pp sharing (about $635), and a 4-day safari costs ZAR 11800 pp sharing (about $845).
This includes return transfers from Johannesburg, accommodation inside the Kruger Park in standard en-suite bungalows, two meals per day (breakfast and dinner), entrance fees and daily conservation fees, and all game drives on an open safari vehicle with highly experienced English speaking guide.
If you arrive off an international flight it is better to arrive the day before, so you can rest a bit and be ready for an early pick up on the first day of the safari. If you’re catching an international flight on the last day, don’t book a flight that departs earlier than 9 pm.
I hope this helps. Availability is a key issue so my suggestion is that you look up our website and send an enquiry from there to find out availability and get a more detailed quote, with no obligation.

Boa tarde!
Qual é a programação que vocês recomendam fazer para quem vai pela primeira vez?
Written 5 January 2019
For a first time safari, I recommend spending at least 3 or 4 nights on safari in Kruger. The scheduled Kruger Park safaris starting in Johannesburg are perfect, with a small group of up to 9 people. The 4-night 5-day safari takes you to two different camps in Kruger, which is a great overall safari program. If budget allows, you can also spend 2 or 3 nights in Kruger, followed by 2 or 3 nights at one of the more expensive private safari lodges in the adjacent private reserves, which provides a slightly different safari experience.

Hi myself and a friend are staying in Capetown and want to do a safari on the weekend of the 12th Jan we only have 2 nights as back to work on the Monday, I have looked into the one near Capetown and it does not sound too good from the reviews.
Can you advise on Kruger and the cost to get us there. We do not need anything to posh to sleep in.

It can be done, but will depend on availability. You can either fly to Johannesburg and join a scheduled safari from there, or fly directly to Nelspruit, Skukuza or Hoedspruit from Cape Town, but these flights are quite expensive. Best is to send an enquiry via our website to check availability and get a quote.

We have a group of 8 traveling together in Sept. 2019. We will be in Johannesburg for 7 days. We would like to Tour Kruger Park. We only have 2 nights available to see the park. What would the average cost for travel to get us there and accommodations per person ?

Hi Sherri, great to hear you are planning a trip to the Kruger Park while you are in Johannesburg!
For a 2 night safari, including return transfers from Johannesburg, entrance fees and conservation fees, accommodation in standard bungalows with air-conditioning and small private bathroom, all game drives with expert guide in an open sided safari vehicle, and breakfast and dinner daily, the price for Sep 2019 should cost about ZAR 8900 per person which is about $645 USD at the current exchange rate.
Safaris that cost more than this usually have more upmarket accommodation, and safaris that cost less than this have more basic accommodation (for example tents with shared ablutions) or they don't include everything, such as transfers from Johannesburg.
September is popular so for a group of 8 it is advisable to book early to ensure availability.
Hope this helps, please do not hesitate to send us an email to get a more detailed quote!
Kind regards,

It is possible to visit the Kruger Park with your own vehicle. This is called a self-drive safari. The downside of a self-drive safari is that you have to drive yourself, in a closed vehicle, you won't have a knowledgeable guide with you, you won't have the benefit of an open safari vehicle, and you will have to cater for yourself.
