This battlefield was the site of a massive defeat of the Highland Regiments by the Boer army. The Scottish troops wrongly thought the Boers were on top of a mountain and they cleverly had dug themselves into trenches near the bottom. The advancing regiments were surprised and devastated. The museum is pretty good and the battlefield walks best done early... More

Well worth the trip out to see the battlefield and the small but interesting museum. Also stop and have refreshements at the little cafe, Martha makes a mean milk tart.

Good exhibition of Anglo Boer War artefacts, weapons and clothing. Dramatization of the actual battle is very interesting.

The little museum is old but still provides the information, a short video gives you a glimpse of the battle. We entered the grounds and never came across one other sole during our visit, except for the person working in the cafeteria area. We had knowledge of the battle but without additional information battled to find our way around the... More

Brings the arena of battle plus the trauma closer to home. It must have been so utterly confusing for the young Troops of the line - so far from home and not understanding anything of it all. Pointless deaths.

Absolutely a wonderful experience every time you visit Magersfontein Battle Route and the food prepared by Martha Richardson out of this world on a Sunday. You should visit them.

We enjoyed a lovely Father's Day outing. The restaurant was serving a special meal for which reservations had to be made. We did not make a reservation, but were still accommodated and treated to a scrumptious meal. By the way, the milk tart is to die for!

This battlefield is so well preserved and the museum at the site really set out, clearly, what happened that day. The drive there is also nice as you get an idea of the lay of the land.

Magersfontein is a historical site that will touch a visitor from any country. Various visual displays, a detailed monument and stunning views and picnic spots. Learn something about all our ancestors and how this battle was won by the Boer against the British with the help of Dutch French and Scottish volunteers. A very small piece of gravel road to... What a nice place to visit and see the history that was going through the movie house to see how the war took place in those days. Was very good. Great service at the little shop.
