Enjoy a living, noisy and intriguing city as we manoeuvre through its busy streets. History, culture and architecture are woven into our story. We find our way to the colourful Bo-Kaap, the country's oldest Muslim area, (it is recommended that ladies carry a scarf to cover the shoulders, in the event that we enter a mosque), step into St. George's Anglican Cathedral and enjoy a stroll through the Company's Gardens where we pass Parliament, the National Library and Tuynhuis, the President's official town residence. We enter Groote Kerk, the country's oldest church and allow the story of slavery to unfold as we pass the former Slave Lodge and look at the Slave Memorial on Church Square. The walk then leads to the Grand Parade, lined by the City Hall where Mandela gave his first speech as a free man, and the Castle built on the city's original shoreline. The story of District Six is told, historic murals and grand art deco buildings are discovered. The walk ends on bustling Greenmarket Square, dominated by the Methodist Church and Old Townhouse.

The walks last about 2.5 hours and can be handled by anybody, there is no steep uphill except for a gentle rise towards Bo-Kaap.

The tour takes place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, starting at 11h00 and are conducted in English and/or German, depending on the composition of the group.

No prior booking is necessary during the summer season, although in the winter months from May to end September it is advisable to book. Just come to meeting venue in 66 Loop Street/ cnr Hout Street to purchase your ticket.

The fee for adults is R 250.00 per person (cash only). Accompanied children under 14 walk free.

N.B. It is advisable you come by taxi. Cape Town's streets are heavily congested and parking is extremely difficult to find.

Thank you very much for your encouraging comments. It is always a great pleasure for me to show our vibrant city to visitors who have a genuine interest in history, past and present. Thank you for taking the trouble and time to review the walk and enjoy, hopefully, a few more sunny (but less stormy) days in Cape Town! More

With only a few days to spend in Cape Town and not wishing to waste a lovely sunny day by being indoors, a walking tour seemed to fit the bill. Ursula of Wanderlust wrote the book - literally. The other tour guides in town use her books on the history of the city to base their own itinerary. Ursula is... More

I am really glad that you enjoyed your wander through town and history with me. But without your own enthusiasm and interest it might never have been so much fun. It is true, many visitors miss out on so many fascinating things to do and see in town, and my aim really is to make the city come alive for... More

A wonderful 2,5 hour walk around Cape Town with the German guide Ursula. You are told about the history of cape town as you slowly walk throw the town and are introduced to the local spice shop in Bo-Kaap and small other local markets of food and African art. Its a good way to get to know the city...

This is a brilliant way to see, and listen to stories about, Cape Town. Ursula Stevens is just wonderful, bringing Cape Town to life in an extremely informative and understated manner. If it fits your schedule this is 2.5 hours really well spent.

We did a historical tour with Ursula around Cape Town. It was raining when we started but in no way dampened the tour. Ursula was so informative and entertained us as we walked around the points of interest. Well worth it if you have the time.

Ursula was a great tour guide and walked us through many historical parts of Cape Town describing the evolution and painting pictures of what it looked like in the past.
