We recently spent a hour walking through these gardens. We loved the beautiful ancient trees, some really fine specimens. But there were large areas that were needing attention, plus it was hard to feel totally at ease walking past so many homeless people sleeping in...More

The gardens are historically important and provide a pleasant area for a stroll in the middle of Cape Town but are not otherwise special. The cafe in the centre is OK for a drink or lunchtime snack.

Spent about an hour walking around. Many places to sit. Clean and well maintained. Also has a good restaurant in the park. Not sure I would go in at night but day time was great.
