We arrived at 4:30pm and could park close to the cable car station and there was no queue for tickets or the cable car itself. Enjoyed walking around at the top, then had to queue for 15 mins to get the cable car down at 6pm.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 October 2023

The views were incredible and we really enjoyed our time a top the mountain . Well worth the time and effortVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 October 2023
- jsmithk2Belfast, United Kingdom2 contributionsAmazing views of Cape TownAmazing views of Cape Town, Camps Bay etc.. The cable car floor rotates 360 degrees while travelling to the top so everyone gets a great view of Cape Town and mountains during the short trip. We paid the extra for fast track ticket to bypass the long queue, definitely worth it as we were on a tight time schedule and spent 1.5 hours on mountain top.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 October 2023
- SagarSavlaJersey City, New Jersey178 contributionsGreat if weather is on your sideWe (family 3Adults, 2Kids) almost missed this due to bad weather. We got lucky and the weather cleared up just enough for us to enjoy this wonderful place. About the experience: You go up on a very quick cable car up. It hardly takes 5 minutes to reach up. The cable car floor is rotating so it doesn’t matter where you stand. You are going to get a 360 degree view while going up. There are 3 walking routes up table mountain. We did the 2nd as that is an appropriate time and distance which covers most of the views. Terrain is flat and easy to walk. Views are amazing and different from different points. Cable car down is the same experience as going up. Before you enter they take your photo not turned out to be very good and we bought it for 250 Rand which seemed like a decent price. Overall we spent approximately 3 hours. Other useful logistical hints Check the table mountain website for 1. Of the cable car is working 2. Weather and view. We went up when weather was Mild and View was intermittent. 3. Wait times. Helps you guesstimate the crowds and expected wait times We were self driving and found a parking spot close to the cable car entrance. Going in afternoon is cheaper than going in morning. That worked well for us as it was a cloudy few days and afternoons seemed to clear up and not too cold Take layers of clothing as weather can change during your visit. We put on/off our jackets at various times during our visit depending on the weather changing and sun.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 4 November 2023
- 1957Ottawa, Canada991 contributionsA must to visit!Part of our Gate 1 tour , we attempted twice to ascend to the top of Tablemountain, however the winds were strong so the mountain was closed. Check the weather before going in order not to be disappointed. If you go in morning, the lineups for cable car is quite long ( 1 1/2 hour) . However we did find out that you can pay a little more and get the express ticket... The views as you go up are breathtaking. Once at the summit, you can walk around , take in , the astonishing views. It can get quite windy so bring yourself a jacket. There is a coffee shop, restaurant with a bar and of course gift shops. The views going down are as magical. If you are fit, you can hike up on this trail..This is a must to visit..Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 November 2023
- KatherineManchester, United Kingdom522 contributionsA must do! While in SA!Unless you fancy a massive trek them this is the only way up to the top of table mountain. We got there for about 9.30am so glad we did as an hours wait the queue had more than doubled. Please be aware there are a lot of steps involved before entering the cable cart. Tickets we purchased ours with the big red bus your and glad we did as didn’t like the idea of queuing twice. The cable cart rotates so everyone gets a full view on the way up and down which is great for everyone as there are about 60 people cart. It was smooth ride and pleasant trip up to the top. I personally thought it was great and loved our trip to the top.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 November 2023

Get your ticket at the Citibus Hop on Hop Off tour office at the Waterfront and hop on the Citibus to get there. Avoid the hassle of trying to park.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 14 November 2023
- spsafetyEdinburgh, United Kingdom67 contributionsDon’t miss viewing Cape Town from Table MountainYou can’t visit Cape Town and not visit Table Mountain to see the views…it’s a fantastic experience. We used the hop on hop off Red bus to take us to the bottom terminal of the Table Mountain Cable car. Advice pre book cable car ticket so you don’t have to wait on a queue. The cable car gives you fantastic views of the city, mountains nearby, coastline, rugby stadium and Robben Island. The cable car floor rotates 360 degrees as it moves up to the top terminal station, so everyone in the cable car gets an opportunity to see the views. There is a cafe, restaurant and bar facilities at the top of Table Mountain and fantastic views of the surrounding countryside…well worth the visit.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 November 2023
- KirstenCape Town, South Africa27 contributionsSpectacularI've been in Cape Town for 20 years, but I've never done Table Mountain. It always looked so dry and boring, but this year, I took the cable car. It was spectacular. We were lucky to go when the cloud was just below the top with the mountain peaks breaking through. We did a lazy stroll at the top, but it was beautifully put together. They had info plaques everywhere, and the pathways were immaculate. ALL the staff were cheery and lovely, and every single one wished me happy birthday. This is one of the best touristy things I've ever done. The hiking trails look a bit evil, so I'm not going to do any of them until I've developed a bit more skill. Re: queues: We arrived at 8:00 on a weekday, so we didn't have to queue. We went towards the end of November just before tourist season. The lunch spot did get crazy at 12:00, but a morning visit is totally doable at this time of year. Just don't eat at the top. The food is terrible and totally overpriced.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 18 November 2023

Everyone will tell you it is 'the must do' in Cape Town, and the views are amazing when you get up. We went up on the open top bus in an afternoon and it was relatively quiet, and used the bus to get back taking in the rest of the route. We waited for around 20/30 mins to get up and a little longer to get down, but I'm sure it can be a lot worse. We purchased tickets online in advance at both the morning and afternoon rates to give us flexibility to go up depending on the weather conditions. We tried to get the refund online for the unused tickets but struggled with the system and gave up, but in real terms it wasn't a big loss.

With queues of 2 hours on arrival at the base of Table mountain you sort of feel oh well it’s a must do so we will wait. Great to have help though from our guide Bruce who kindly kept our place in the queue whilst we walked a little to keep our legs moving. It was also very hot , close to 30degrees.
When finally after about 1.5 hours we got onto the cable car all seemed great. The trip on top was amazing and we took lots of amazing photos and saw stunning views. Also our guide showed us the local flora and had a great knowledge of the plants etc and the history of the mountain. He also had facts about how many people have actually used the cable cars since they were installed.
When it was time to return we got a shock as the queues were over 3 hours to get down and on top of that as we neared the 100yards area where there was elements of shade we were informed that the cable cars doors had jammed. Wow in over 30degrees waiting in this heat
was tough. However our guide again helped out. But with so many visitors both cafe areas were so full and huge queues ensued there also it was over 30mins to get an ice cream. The facilities on top do not match the quantities of visitors or anywhere near. Cable car also cannot cope, it takes 65 people at a time so it’s not rocket science to work out how long queues of 100’s of people are going to take to get down again. Eventually after over 3.5 hours we headed down leaving behind a huge queue which our guide said he had never seen before. I hate to think how long they all took to descend. All over trip was fantastic but they do need to improve facilities on top and improve cable cars ( add another 2 cars).

We are in our peak season and welcoming a higher volume of visitors which means longer queues.
On the day of your visit, we did have an issue with the cable car door which was fixed as quickly as possible. We got everyone down as quickly as we could,

Taking the Cableway to the top of Table Mountain is not something for people who have vertigo but it is definitely worth it for the view. Depending on the time of year and weather, there can be a fairly long line and the wait time can exceed one hour in each direction. Be sure to buy tickets on line in advance to avoid standing in two lines (one to buy tickets and one to board the Cable Car.)

On a busy Friday morning at 7am, (Federer /Nadal tennis match weekend) I prebooked our ticket onto the hop on hop off red bus route. We still needed to get our paper tickets at the bus stop so I am not sure that we actually saved any time. The combo deal for the bus and cable car was already sold out, that’s how busy a weekend this was. We got to the bus stop ( there are 30 throughout the city) by 8:40 ish. Go early! We got off the bus and bought our cable car tickets on the mountain! We were up on the mountain not long after 9am. We waited maybe 20 minutes to get to the top. The cable car is amazingly smooth ride ( wasn’t an overly windy day) and the rotating floor allows everyone to get a bit of time at the best view point! A cable car can take up 60 people at a time! The views were amazing! You can take as long or as little time as you like. A round trip took two of us an hour! Waited all to two minutes for the next hop on bus! What a great way to get to the top.

I took the family to Table mountain on the 2nd Jan 22 for a trip up the mountain, Covid protocols were all adhered to on the ground and entering the facility and cars etc. When entering the car I asked the Car attendant how many were allowed to travel in the car at any one time, the answer given by a nice young lady was 35. On departure the car attendant, now a being a gentleman, waited for the car to fill up, I questioned the attendant as to how many were allowed in the car and was informed up to 50, I did a quick head count and counted 52 plus attendant and there were a handful of kids that i had not counted. Max capacity is 65, their website claims 25 per trip. when i questioned the attendant again he promptly reversed the situation by trying to make a fool out of me and claiming that my mask was not covering my face properly, embarrassing me in front of the entire car. We pay good money for these trips, the cable car website states their protocol, which they should be adhering to. Further more as a concerned customer that is adhering to protocols and trying my best to make sure that my family and others are safe, I don't appreciate being made to look stupid and be embarrassed by the car attendant, when he is trying to cover up for his wrong doing.
Table mountain management, you should be ashamed of your so called trained staff.

The reason for this title is that Table Mountain can get windy or covered with clouds, in which case the Table Mountain is closed for visitors. But if the weather favors you, it is well worth the visit to the top and the views are beyond amazing -- to a point it is surreal.
Given that Mother nature plays an important role of one's visit, the queues can get longer, but if both cable cars operating, then here is how it works:
It takes 3 minutes one way + 2 minutes of wait on each side to unload and load passengers, so it takes 5 minutes one way, for a total of 10 minutes of round trip. Each trip can take 60+ passengers up / down. Therefore, if both cars are operating, it would take 120 passengers every 10 minutes. So, one can estimate the wait time.
Make sure to buy the tickets ahead, online. Tickets bought for morning has to be on the cable car before 12:00 Noon, and return can be anytime.
Absolutely worth the visit.

The cableway is definitely the best way to the top of table mountain unless you are keen on a big hike. It isn't until you get to Cape Town until you appreciate quite how big table mountain is and how it dominates the city.
The cable car is very well organised and the queue moved quite quickly. We got there early to try and get up on one of the first few cars up the mountain and the queue wasn't too bad. We probably only waited 20minutes to get up.
I would recommend getting there early before the clouds roll in to get the best views over the city and the cape.

Having hiked up Table Mountain, it was way too hot and difficult for us to hike down as well. There was a long queue to come down so we sent one person to buy the ticket and the rest of us to join the queue. The cable car itself actually rotates 360° so that everyone on board gets an all-round view. It surprised us how quickly we got to the bottom.

We booked our tickets online and Ubered to the cable car station from the City Centre. Found both very reasonable. The rotating floor of the cable car was something I found very interesting, great to provide a 360 degree to everyone.
At the top there are many paths to get different vistas for every direction. I have trouble with heights and I was ok as most areas had paths back from the edge, just had to think ahead. Amazing views!
We even found the cafe at the top ok price-wise, especially compared to many other tourist areas we've been to in other countries.
100% worth getting to Table Mountain.

Muchas apologies for only replying now. I only got home last night after 217 days away to Antarctica. Re the Cableway, even if there is a queue the cable cars take quite a lot of people so waiting time is usually not much. However, be aware of wind forecasts, and it often blows on the mountain when down in the city it is calm. While I was away my family and friends went up to view the disas and as the wind had come up they could not take the car down and had to hike instead which is NOT easy on the legs.

Is there an option to just take the cableway down without the guide or the hop on/off bus?

Yes, sure and more than that whichever you like you can do;
Hiking, climbing, walking up or down with or without guide.

Hi,can l buy the ticket today in advance like for 19 September 2020
Written 4 September 2020
I would actually advise you to buy it in advance to avoid the queue...
However, in advance could be now but, it can also be a few hours before actually going. We did the latter just a few hours before, through our hotel concierge. We wanted to ensure that we could go up...
As soon as there is wind or other unfavourable weather conditions the cablecar doesn't work.
I have met many people who have been in Capetown for a few days but couldn't go up due to weather.
