Rhodes cottage is small, only four rooms, but contains a wealth of interesting information about the great man. Mr Taylor, one of the volunteer guides is full of fascinating stories about the life and times of Rhodes. He really made our visit special. I urge you to go there.

I have to start out by saying that this is no world-class museum. It is a small cottage that authentically represents where the man spent his last days. Given that it has NO public funding, does well under circumstances. It is manned by volunteers, and they seem very well versed in the subject matter. Rhodes himself is obviously a highly... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Cecil John Rhodes Museum. The museum is in his holiday home .The cottage was built in 1895. Amazing to think this was his garden, his view and the place this great man came to relax. It was the last place he lived ,as he died after becoming ill whilst staying there .He was only... More

Considering that this place is part of the history of South Africa it is rather a shame to see the state of this cottage. The museum is only open from 10am to 1pm and staffed by volunteers. On arrival we were greeted by Rob who was very knowledgeable about the life and times of Cecil Rhodes and very helpful. The... More

The museum is located on a main road which runs through Muizenberg. The view of the ocean is spectacular and that's about it. Inside there is a bit of information and some memorabilia but not really what I was expecting. I did not learn anything new, just that Rhodes spent his last days here. Note that the museum is run... This museum was a very interesting experience for several reasons. It is a lovely cottage from about 1850 and so it was interesting to see inside. The restoration was done sensitively and there were some nice pieces of furniture and other artifacts. It also happened to be the house where John Cecil Rhodes died. He was awaiting completion of his... More

Based in the house in which Cecil Rhodes died (his waterfront beach house) the museum is divided into various periods of his life e.g.. gold & diamonds, politics & the colonisation of Matabeleland (subsequently Rhodesia) Each section contains a selection of photographs and informative panels. In addition helpful volunteers are on hand to add more colour/detail to the displays. For... More

There are only 4 normal size rooms to this small museum but it does cover his whole life. Worth a visit if you are interested in Rhodes or this period in SA history Parking is small but usuall fine. Entrance is free though they do ask for contibutions

Used whilst the house next door was being built for him , this cottage maintains the ambiance of this multimillionaire who lived the last days in the Cape . Worth a visit filled with a few memorabilia from this Rand Lord's life.
