From the description on the website, we were extremely keen to get this trip booked. Note that for the December holidays, bookings only open from October onwards and bookings fill up rapidly. In brief, we enjoyed the trip, but we only found out once we...More

We booked to go on the Outeniqua power vans- took grandparents and great grands and made it a big family outing. It was interesting for the adults but not so much for the children. The tour stops kind of in the middle of nowhere when...More

We had our children and grandchildren visiting, with the two brothers aged 11 and 3 years having their birthday in the same week. Whilst the younger boy is presently a keen follower of Thomas (the train) and Friends, we thought a visit to the real...More

This was my second trip on the power van and was I was lucky enough to have a jackpot seat at the back going up and at the front going down as they swing the seats the other way on the descent affording unhindered views...More

This was our second time with the Power Van. It was as fantastic as I remember the first time. Beautiful scenery and great commentary. Loved the stop at the top for something to eat and then down again.

This was our second journey with the power van. We took my parents with for their wedding anniversary. Commentary across many topics like, passes in the area, fynbos, King Protea, and scenery was given to us. The journey last around 160 minutes. At the top,...More

Many years since we last did this trip - I had forgotten how good it was. Rubbish on the line spoiled the start, but once clear of the city it was magnificent. We almost decided not to go because of the mist and rain, but...More

Worth doing as it's the only way for a passenger to experience this line (why? Surely a tourist train could run to Oudsthoorn and De Rust?) but rather amateurish. When busy the accommodation is cramped and uncomfortable, and the 'commentary' is unnecessary and, frankly, laborious.

Nice excursion to the mountains. Good price as it includes access to the train museum. The van itself is a little "tight" with people almost sitting on top of each other making viewing difficult. Take coldrinks and snacks with as there will be a stop...More

First off the trip, views and helpful commentary are breathtaking. You can only admire the engineers who managed to push a railway over such difficult terrain. But the whole thing is spoiled by the unhelpful attitude of the booking. There is no website for the...More

The trips are arranged by demand - if there is only a slight demand the trip is cancelled and people moved to a fuller trip. It’s half day.
