Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed in Gansbaai to do a shark cage dive from Stilbaai. The walk along the beach fronting Walker Bay through to Gansbaai harbour is absolutely stunning. This is not a casual walk and does take some fitness to do.

Stunning is the only way to describe this spectacular coastline....there are a number of spots to stop off at in you are driving or alternatively you can walk the meandering (and well maintained) pathway that hugs the coastline....it can be a bit breezy but isn't that what it's all about.....

We were here in October 2016. Took a tour from Hermanus. The boat went quite straight off to De Kelders. We were told that there are relatively few whales this year (2016). 20% of what is normal. We spent 5 days in the area and everyday we went to De Kelders and on 4 days we saw the whales over there, easily to be watched from De Kelders as they where swimming, diving, breaching, spyhopping quite close under the coast of De Kelders. Spent approximately 12 hours of whalewatching from De Kelders. Marvellous! Approximately 6 whales around, mothers with calves. Swimming, but diving, playing, watching the tails go deep, waving their finns, breaching with enormous power out of the water, spyhopping (just their heads out of the water), against this beautiful background of the bay, beach and mountains, Could have spent there much more hours.

After a mildly disappointing couple of days in Hermanus we took the Cape Whale Coast road back to Cape Town. What an absolutely fabulous route! The views were stunning at every turn.
Luckily the planners have anticipated the interest in the views and there are stopping places literally every kilometre or so along the most picturesque parts of the route.
It’s work hiring a car just to drive this road!

We have visited the coast twice but never during whaling season. Even so, it is beautiful with its diversity of beaches, cliffs, rocks and other wildlife. I hope to come back someday during whaling season though.

Seeing many whales quite close up from the mainland was amazing. One Southern Right Whales breached 9 times in front of us!, brilliant!

The 12km long paved path along the clifftop from the New Harbour through Hermanus town and out to Grotto Beach must provide the best viewing platform for Whales in the world ( and that includes Boats). We walked approx half this pathway _ thanks to the bench seats dotted all along the route at prime viewing spots - and saw between 20 and 30 Southern Right Whales, At one point we saw 3 sets of Mother and Calf Whales within 50m of the shoreline - with 2 Cape Fur Seals as a bonus. Add to the marine activity the prolific Birdlife , the unfased dassies ,and the occasional grey mongoose and you have an unbeatable wildlife experience in a largely urban setting. Just a few miles along the Whale Coast at Betty's Bay you can add African Penguins, Comorants and the odd Dolphin to the day's checklist. Just magic11

Whale watching, and saw dolphins. Crew very hands on, and a safe experience with skilled professionals... thought I'd need a life jacket and turns out it was not necessary! However, if you do get sea sick or you are unsure... rather be safe than sorry and take make sure to get some meds before hand
