About
Our cellar and wine brand is proud to pay homage to and re-live the origin of our village, Hermanuspietersfontein, as it was first named in 1855. Our passion and commitment is to produce wines of the highest quality and to add value to the reputation, which Hermanus enjoys as a premium wine-producing region. Here our winemaker, Bartho Eksteen, makes world-class wines in a state of the art wine cellar, using only the highest quality grapes from one farm. He controls the process from vineyard to cellar and plies his craft and passion under seamless conditions to produce wines of distinctive style and character. Our tasting room is open from 08:00 - 17:00 during the week and cellar tours available on request. Our courtyard transforms into a Food & Wine Market every Saturday offering the best of local produce! Come for breakfast, stay for lunch and buy dinner on your way out... And don't forget about the wine!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The tasting at Hermanuspietersfontein was a bit different than what we are used to. In the nice sunny backyard there was a kind of "self service/self tasting" of the wines accompanied by some nice live guitar music. a mini food-market was also in the same back yard. We had a good time but it was more of a drink spot than tasting spot as the smoke from the barbecue (among other things) made it hard to figure out what was going on inside the small wineglasses.

Had a nice assortment of wines available. The server was wonderful, would recommend to anyone. It cost 30R per person like other spots.

HPF Winery and their Saturday Market has been one of my long-time favourites whenever I visited Hermanus in the past and now that we are settled here more permanently that is where I simply have to go as often as I can. They have a good range of wines but what makes then different to the other (good) vineyards we have in the area is that they stick to what they are best at, so rather than making 20/30 different wines they have 8-12 of the best. The food stalls on Saturdays perfectly compliment the HPF wines so be it mussels, cheese, artisian cured meats or some lovely Greek foods it's a must do when in Hermanus. Open for wine tasting every day as well.

We stopped for a wine tasting at around 11:00 in the morning and we were assisted begrudgingly. Server was almost rude and did not look interested in assisting us. We were one of 2 tables so they were not even busy ore at the end of shift. The wine was lovely and enjoyed it. I suppose most will enjoy the big servings for tastings but there was nowhere to dispose of it and staff did not come to your table before the glass your was finished.

We were staying very locally in Hemel en Aarde Valley and we got a free wine tasting voucher from Whalehaven Wines, so we thought - brilliant, lets go and try these wines too...
Well the wines were nice, but the staff couldn't be bothered to tell us about them - I'm not sure whether they didn't put the effort in because we had a free tasting voucher, or perhaps they were a little busy. Either way we were not really impressed with their wine tasting experience.
As we sat down to try the wines, the sommelier just filled the glasses and walked away. When we asked the second sommelier to tell us about the second wine, she produced a loose-leaf file and took a page out of it. We had to read about the wines ourselves, there was no interpersonal interaction between us and the staff, they appeared to be more interested talking to each other than looking after their customers.
While everyone can be busy, and everyone can have off days, I feel a little let down by this experience. I didn't buy any wines from them because of the lack of customer service.
My favourite wines from the collection are Posmeester and the Skoonma. In Afrikaans, Posmeester means "Postmaster", and Skoonma means "Mother-in-law".
While we were doing the wine tasting with Whalehaven, we were told that the area of Hermanus used to be known as Hermanuspietersfontein until the Postmaster started abbreviating it when he was responsible for handwriting addresses out. This winery has taken the full name of the town and the name of the Posmeester is forever enshrined as a connection to both the town and the local history.

I enjoyed your Saturday morning food market so much! I bought olive oil, had abalone for lunch and tasted wine. And my wine tasting was free! I will most definitely recommend you and your market to anyone and everyone. Well done!

A friend recommended that we try the market here and what a great recommendation. The variety of food stalls is superb (there were so many delicious looking things that we bought to eat and to take away!), the market is really clean and it is such a nice touch that you get to eat off plates and wooden boards and not paper plates. It is nice to buy from small producers who clearly care about their produce and we thought the blackboards with funny sayings are a nice touch too. Will definitely go back!

Whenever we manage a weekend getaway to Hermanus, the Saturday market at Hermanuspietersfontein is a must. We take the opportunity to buy a box of their excellent red wine and enjoy a bottle right there with a cheese selection from Gerrie. It is good for the soul and the palate. The kids love it and insist that we go back every time!
