About
Though damaged through shortsighted tourism schemes in the 1960s, these caves are still worth a visit for their eerie dark tunnels and stunning limestone formations.

    Best tour guide
Our recent visit to the Congo Caves was an amazing experience. From the moment we set foot inside the caves, we were captivated by the sheer beauty and mystery that unfolded before our eyes. However, it was our guide, Zano, who truly elevated this trip to a whole new level. Zano, with his quick wit and infectious sense of humor, made the journey all the more enjoyable. From the very beginning, he had us laughing with his clever anecdotes and humorous observations. His passion for the caves was evident, as he effortlessly shared his wealth of knowledge about the geological formations and the history of the caves We were left awestruck numerous times by the fascinating facts he shared. Whether it was the stalactites and stalagmites that seemed to defy gravity or the mesmerizing underground rivers that carved their way through the limestone, Zano's explanations brought everything to life. His ability to weave storytelling into his commentary made the journey all the more immersive and memorable. Beyond his wit and knowledge, Zano also ensured our safety and comfort throughout the entire trip.

    Adventure tour with Lizano
We did the adventure tour with Lizano. He was funny, knowledgable and great with the crowd. Definitely a must see for anyone in the area. If you're not happy with tight spaces, maybe stick to the normal (boring) tour!

    Cango Caves Heritage Tour
My friend and I completes the Cango Caves Heritage Tour whilst in Oudtshoorn. Our guide was Zano. He was informative, friendly, easy to listen to and helpful. The tour takes you into the first few chambers of the caves. The floor is mostly level and it is easy walking. There are stairs to climb. You have to mind your head in a few places. The chambers are unique and each is different. The rock formations are beautiful to see.

Impressive and a must to visit
Visited this site always with great expectation. This time, after a long time in between, was somewhat of a let down. In the past we could go right up to the post box and then turn around. THis however is no longer part of the tour and really a bit of a let down. This place is however still impressive and a must to visit when in the area. The service at the restaurant can be jacked up seriously as it is slow with a lack of motivation and friendliness.

    Great experience
We did the adventure tour which was 1,5 hours and great value for money. We were a little worried about our size and whilst there were some tight sections our guide was terrific in guiding us. We only had 6 of us in the group. The guide was knowledgeable, patient and considerate and the tour was exciting. I think I would have found the 1 hour tour quite tame.

Amazing experience!! Totally worth it. Our tour guide was Zano (also known as sweet heart). He was very friendly, funny and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed our time with him!!! We did the advanced tour - I would recommend this for adventurous people! If you are claustrophobic, maybe best to do the basic tour!

    Nice adventure
We highly recommend the 90 minutes adventure tour. There are some nice climbs and narrow passages. Some basic fitness is required. The tour guide Zano explained everything clear and with a nice sense of humor. He took care of everybody's well being. A great experience.

Ever been crawling through a cave?
Mega experience on the Garden Route, not for claustrophobics. The adventure route is so beautiful and scary at the same time that it is an absolute highlight for me from my South Africa vacation and I would never want to do it again. Especially the last two obstacles can be scary if you keep in mind that you are in a cave. Nevertheless, absolutely worth seeing, awesome experience! The cave itself is beautifully developed and the 1.5h stay seemed like less. Part of our group was a 71 year old man, so you should not be deterred. In the cave itself it is quite warm, short clothing and sturdy shoes were accordingly a must.

Wow what an experience, we had a wonderful guide who was friendly & professional. We were also very lucky one of our party was celebrating her b'day & we all sang Happy Birthday to her in the cave, after which our guide sang a hymn Ava Maria which was truly breathtaking.

We were not sure if a visit to Congo caves would be worth the time but from the moment we started our drive up the R328 through the stunning mountain pass to the cave visitor centre we were impressed.
The caves are well worth a visit and our guide, Eric, was so knowledgeable it was a fascinating experience. Eric showcased the acoustics of the caves with his magnificent voice singing in his native language. This was a real highlight for us.
The spectacle did not end there as the journey down the R33 and the outeniqua pass was spectacular after our overnight stay on a hop farm set in a fertile valley amongst the mountains. The whole experience was a real memory maker.

That stunning cave is well worth the trip from the coast. Amazing formations even if you choose to take the easier "Heritage Tour".

Thank you to the excellent guide Zano, made sure we all had an unforgettable experience. Was an amazing adventurers tour, he was extremely knowledgeable about the cave formations, he calmed the nerves, and made us feel confident to go in the caves, and made all of us laugh a lot, was really a great experience.

I was a bit apprehensive about visiting Cango Caves as I suffer from claustrophobia. We didn't do the adventure tour as that would have definitely been terrifying for me, but the standard tour was fine. The rock formations are spectacular.
