A good way to absorb the Stellenbosch vibe

We walked along Dorp Street a few times, it's lovely to see the different architectures & imagine the history of the place

Dorp street is part of the original town with some well preserved historical buildings. This oak lined street was the original wagon road from Cape Town more than 300 years old. A walk down Dorp Street will take you to many historical buildings with Cape Dutch ort Victorian architecture. Apart from boutique shops and trendy coffee shops, there are many... More

This is the main historic walking street in Stellenbosch. It offers some food options (I recommend Stellenbosch Kitchen) as well as an excellent hardware store and a gas station with ATM. There's a good computer shop just off Dorp Street in Krige Street.

We lived on Dorp Street for the 6 nights we were here and really enjoyed being in such a historic and lovely old part of town. Oak trees line both sides of the street providing lots of shade from the hot sun although you have to watch your step as the tree roots have raised the paving all over the... More

Although summer time in Stellenbosch is hot, do walk in the lower and also the upper parts of this street. In the lower part of the street, there are nice shops, up on the other end, you will see the Theological building of the university and also the old Dutch Reformed church. In the middle, there are hotels, places to... More

A stroll up Dorp Street is a must when visiting Stellenbosch. The "village road" is lined with beautiful old oak trees and home to a number of excellent restaurants in heritage historical buildings, one or two legendary "drinking holes" and the quaint Oom Samie the winkel.

Restaurants and Oom Samies Winkel. A must visit. Clean and Beautiful. There is also the Protea Hotel where you can stay and then walk Dorp Street.

Dorp Street is lined with Oak trees and historical buildings. We took a walking tour which included loads of interesting facts on the Street and its architecture. There are lots of pubs and restaurants all around Stellenbosch with photos of the street through the ages. Several buildings including the Eendracht Hotel can easily be seen in these pictures.
