    ok but no 'wow' factor
We visited 6 wine estates on our recent trip to Stellenbosch and while I wanted to love Kleine Zalze (we are a big fan of their Cab Sav at home) it was probably the bottom of our list. Kleine Zalze is located very close to Stellenbosch on the edge of Techno Park. The security on the front gate is slightly over the top interrogated our Uber driver before letting us in. The restaurant and wine tasting room is in the centre of the estate and a small but pretty are with water mists in the summer and vines growing overhead. Their offering is small and as such the whole experience feels a bit quick and mechanical with limited interaction with the staff. So you arrive, drink a few wines, pay and leave! Definitely feel like they could do something more here with the location and space they have to incorporate their restaurant and wine tasting experiences better to encourage people to make this more of an experience?

    Wonderful wine tasting
Exceptional service and care from Mylene whose knowledge on the wine making process was educational. Her charm and kindness I. The way she engaged was so special - we felt seriously looked after - leaving with knowing a whole new world as to how wine is made. Thank u Mylene

    Just excellent
Wow wow wow. We had the most amazing wine tasting experience. Munro was our guide and he served us the most amazing wine. His knowledge and expertise were next level. I visited quite a few wine farms during my 10 day stay in Cape Town and Klein Zalze topped it off. Do yourself a favour and visit. You won’t be sorry

Have a look at Pierrescruba’s review, as we had exactly the same experience! We were a group of 8 and the server was bullying us all to taste the same wines (he had specially chosen!) otherwise ‘we wouldn’t be able to taste 5 wines in the time we had available. I (and another couple) insisted we wanted to choose our own wines. He then ignored us for the remainder of the tasting and sent another server to serve us our chosen wines. Surprise, surprise, we did have ample time to sample all 5 wines we wanted to try. No apology. I suggest the management of Kleine Zalze think seriously about whether they wish to have this employee fronting their business. I’m sure you are probably aware of this individual? Further description is a available if requested! The wines themselves and the location and ambiance were wonderful, but the appalling customer service displayed by this individual warrants this venue as a 1.

I should start of by saying the wines are excellent, but unfortunately that is where the good experience ends. We went for a winetasting and elected to sit inside due to the weather. We were sat down between boxes. We started with an excellent Chenin Blanc and then moved to the Sauvignon Blanc... or so we assume, as the wine was not introduced and without them changing glasses. For the third wine, we had to look for a waitress to ask if we are still doing a wine tasting. At the 4th wine, we asked for new glasses, as we were still on the first glass. It was extremely disappointing.

Lovely setting, decent wine, but poor service. We visited for a wine tasting, which started off badly when we had to go in after finishing our first glass and waiting at least 10 minutes to be served our second glass. Wines were served individually rather than served at the same time to compare colour and aroma. We had selected three reds and were served the full-bodied wines first, ending with the least full bodied. When I questioned our server, he basically implied it was more convenient for him to have served this way. We also noticed his pours were less generous than a colleague who was attending to a table next to us. When I asked for a little bit more, he appeared quite put out.
Pity, as I mentioned, nice setting nice wines, but we definitely wouldn't recommend it.

We had a small wine tasting and a cheese board.

Our male server was friendly, but that was it.

He had no interest in us. We would probably still be waiting for the fork we requested for our meal today.

The price for the wine tasting was fair.

Very affordable and professionally presented wine tasting. Beautiful view and helpful staff. I would love to visit the restaurant next time. They could add more signage to direct people towards the right place.

As their wines have been available many years also our government monopoly wine shops, we decided finally visit also here for tasting.
We chose rather expensive Family Reserve Tasting. Four good wines, but not any wow-effect. Service was not at all enthusiastic, and really slow.
Best part was really meeting family from Linköping, Sweden.

My wife had just come out of hospital, was wearing a neck brace having had spinal surgery and we decided to take a drive to purchase wine from Kleine Zalze.
We are Diamond Wine Club members and have dined regularly at the Terroir restaurant.
We purchased 30 bottles of wine and then asked if my wife could buy a coffee and sit and relax for a few minutes. The answer from the kitchen was "we are now closed and not serving;" the time was 1.55pm.
I let my disappointment be known but to no avail - there was no service.
I must now review where I dine and from where I purchase my wines in the future.

Of the hundreds of vineyards in the Stellenbosch area that I have visited, I have never been subjected to the level of personal information gathering as at Kleine Zalze, possibly not even upon arrival at an international airport. Ordinarily, entry to a wine estate is free; occasionally you may be asked for your name and vehicle registration number. But at KZ we witnessed Big Brother at draconian levels, they wanted to scan the driver's license, photograph the driver and passengers' faces, obtain identity numbers of the occupants, scan the vehicle's license disc, photograph the vehicle and its registration plate, and then take down full names and phone numbers before we were allowed in the gate. As with lengthy checks at airport security, a frustrating queue had formed behind us; I don't envy the other visitors waiting in it for their chance to enjoy a wine tasting. I will not be returning to Kleine Zalze and urge you not to either until their procedures are aligned with the rest of the country. Their usually superb wines can be easily purchased from supermarket aisles, even if this incident does now ensure they leave a bad taste in my mouth.
