Lovely Items
Jul 2021
This store has so many beautiful handmade items. I bought a lovely handmade piece of pottery. My grandchildren found so items to purchase to give as gifts. The young lady that helped me was so friendly and helpful. Glad we stopped in.

Cheaper Of The Two Stores
May 2019
After looking in Ortega’s Indian City Arts store, we walked across the parking lot into Chee’s. While there is a lot more novelty stuff in Chee’s, the prices were better on the authentic Native items that across the parking lot at Ortega Indian City Arts. We purchased a few things, but we saw a lot of the same items in other locations throughout our trip. Anytime I found a shirt that I liked, they did not have it in 2XL, so that was a bummer. Ultimately, a tourist trap, but there are some finds if you look carefully.

Made by the Originals

Native Americans or as I say, “Original Americans,” have a unique style. However, finding the “Made in the USA” label can be challenging in our Native American art as well. At Chee’s their commitment to showcase and sell only authentic First American’s artistic products is apparent and stated: “Chee’s Indian Store is committed to providing authentic Navajo and other Native American handmade items.” The main items are: rugs, pottery, and jewelry. One thing I find unique for the rugs, is a face associated with the artist’s name. This is shown as a Polaroid within a protective bag that is attached. If art’s not your thing at the present, there’s variety. T-shirts like my favorite which shows an awesome foursome of Native Americans and a caption stating: “American Original Homeland Security. Fighting Terrorism Since 1492.” Provocative messages are my favorite. Outside, at the rear of the store, is an assortment of petrified wood and gemstones. These are not just thrown on a cart. If my observations are correct. They appear to be carefully arranged by size and color. To educate the public and preserve the culture, there’s a well-stocked book and mag section. These materials go from the subject of Arizona where Chee’s resides, to Native American healing arts, and many subjects in between. For whatever reason you stop here, Chee’s has a variety of art and merchandize for a variety of visitors.

Truck drivers passing through, again.

Had to stop this time, as I was looking for Minnetonka moccasins. They have a good selection. The young woman who helped me was a delight, very friendly.
I purchased my first pair of moccasins in more than 30 years! ;)
I just wish the fry bread was open. I love fry bread, but it was closed.
The store had many more items than I expected and wish I had more money and time.

Excellent Items to Consider
Jul 2016 • Family
Chee's was an outstanding place (tourist trap) for someone looking for a momento of their trip through the area. I am glad we stopped as we spent over $50 while there and picked up some things for our condo in Arizona. There is much to look at and things to see and I think the entire family would enjoy the break and the views. Don't expect to leave without dropping some coin as there had to be a reason you were lured into Chee's in the first place. It's not all a bad thing, just try and control that spending impluse...I didn't.

Second Visit and I Still Love This Store
Mar 2016 • Friends
This is the second year in the row that I've visited this store and I still love this store. It is Indian owned and operated, and has some definite kitsch. However, the rock collections are awesome. Every year I find quite a bit more to purchase and add to my rock collection.
