Ended up in Culatra by mistake! Meant to go to Armona. Apparently there is a beach but didnt find it so sat in a 'somewhat' cafe near the pier waiting for the ferry back to Olhao. Wasnt much to do as everything looked closed and had a wait of about 90 mins for the ferry. Shame i didnt find the beach but saw pictures of it but Armona definitely worth visiting.

The best island trip! Take the public ferry from Olhao to Culatra village then walk through the village onto the boardwalk to the sea. Then head towards the lighthouse along the stunningly beautiful beach for an hour then chill out at the very cool Maramais beach bar before walking down to the ferry to return to Olhao. Suggest the 11am out and 4pm back.

Fabulous long sandy beach to spend lazy days on, enjoy swimming in the clear blue water and it now has two beach bars to choose from if feeling thirsty.

Lovely long beach reached by walking for 20 minutes from the ferry through the small residential area and across the dunes on wooden boards. Sunbeds and parasols available but limited food and drink options on the beach and only one toilet

Culatra island is beautiful, the walk to the golden sandy beach along the wooden board walk over a tidal sandy marshland is stunning. And when you arrive Ruberto (of Sol de Culatra beach bar and sun loungers) is super welcoming. He showed us the dolphins swimming just off shore one morning, gave us a good deal on our sun beds each day, outlined the walls we could take along the sands, and provided very accurate weather predictions. Very professional, very friendly & informative. Thanks Ruberto.

Outstanding beach - stunning sand and sea that is not too busy even in July. Easy to hop on a fed off ferry to visit a real gem.

Ferry to culatra was 30 mins long, get there early if you want a good seat but always room to stand. (Times in the photo)

Cost around 2 euro per adult, or just over 4 euro for a return from farrol ( other side of the island ). You can buy tickets from the booth next to the ferry port just before the markets - has a big sign and hard to miss.
(Lots of free parking nearby, if you can’t find any go around contintent supermarket)

Take cash as pretty much no where takes card. You can rent sunbeds on the beach with umbrellas, but easy enough to take your own.

We ate on the culatra side , at a place called Aqua Chill Seafood bar and restaurant. Super fresh and really tasty. 34 euro for two people. Waiters were so friendly and helped us with our lack of Portuguese. We had no cash so they accepted PayPal which was really helpful.

A walk over to farrol side along the beach was lovely, couple of miles long. Some nice bars, one called MarAmais is recommended.

We got the ferry from Olhao at 9am, a bargain at €4 return. The ferry ride itself was just lovely, quite busy but plenty of space on the large ferry.
When we arrived at Culatra we had about a 25 minute walk to the beach. We followed others to ensure we were going in the right direction, passing small bars and cafes along the way.
Most of the walk was along a boardwalk. Toilets just before the beach on the left were very clean (a bit of a concern after reading some of the reviews)
As we approached the beach was stunning, quiet at this time of the day. Soft white sand and turquoise sea which had quite a swell but safe for swimming for those brave enough as it was very cold. We hired front line sun loungers and a parasol for a total cost of €15. The guys on the sun beds and in the small refreshments hut were really friendly. We settled until we got the ferry back at 5.30, it went via Farol so took about an hour back to Olhao, pretty busy but a great way to travel! We would certainly recommend a visit, looking at another visit before we go home.

Like all the beaches here this is a great way to spend a day lazing about listening to "nothing" whilst enjoying the sunshine and walking along the pristine sand, Culatra now has a beach bar if you fancy a drink/bite to eat.
