This is the church used and build by the monks. It is in renaissance style, at least the exterior, as it is closed, no clue about the interior. I really fell in love with this diminutive chapel, as it was constructed in the purest of Renaissance style. Its simplicity and geometric precision and symmetry make it so beautiful. Evidently it was built by King John III. When we visited the chapel was closed.

Many people overlook the chapel as they come by tour bus and go immediately into the castle and Convento de Cristo. Take a short hike down the road to this ol' gal. She is rarely open, but she has a lovely view of the town below.

The title says it all, it looks great from Tomar but seemed rather uncared for when we visited it. According to the tourist details it should have been open but it wasn't. It's a bit of a sideshow after the splendid castle and convent.

From the Pelourinho statue/square there is a narrow road the leads up to the church - watch for the signs. The church is on your right.…
