Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

At the southern end of Prešernov trg is the Muda Gate. Erected in 1516, it's the last of a dozen such entrances to remain standing. On the south side of the archway you'll see the city seal: the face of a youth in a sunburst.

After leaving Tito Square we walked to the stone gate. I did not think it was that impressive and much to see but I guess what it represented was. It is the remains of the wall that surrounded and protected the city so it is an important historical site.

This is a nice place to start a walk around the old part of Koper. Totaly different from the modern part of town. Some nice shops, restaurants for the beginning and interesting historical square with fountain.

Koper, as well as nearby Piran, are what most people probably imagine Venice will be. The advantage here is that you avoid the crowds and pushy souvenir peddlers. A very historic town in a perfect location for launching off to other day trips. The Muda Gate is the historical centerpiece of a town loaded with history.

I lived in an apartment right by that door. At first sight nothing special but still such an interesting historical landmark. Erected in 1516, it's the last of a dozen such entrances to remain standing. At first sight you may even pass through this gate without thinking much about it. If you take the guided tour of the Praetorian Palace, you will understand the significance of the gate. Da Ponte well is located in Prešeren Square in Koper, which was called the Muda Square before and the path through that door leads straight to it.. It is a great place for people watching. Visit the tourist information beside the Praetorian Palace first to find out about it. It's free.

Muda Gate is part of what was the original outer walls of the town. It was located along the tourist information suggested route around the town.

This is a gate out of the old town just past the fountain.
The is a cafe by it so you can stop for a drink on route.
The blue walking route on the town map takes you through this and turns right back towards the port.

At first glance the last remaining entry to the old town of Koper isn't truly impressive. But it's where you step from the new to the old. Stop in the square and look. Outside the wall the roads are made and the buildings are modern; inside there are cobblestones, narrow alleys and old buildings.

It is only since getting home from a recent cruise across the Adriatic that we have been looking at the photos that we took to see it any of them related to entries on Tripadvisor.

We certainly passed through the old archway that is described in this listing by other revewers as the Muda Gate. If that is the case then we did see it. We also found the nearby well and a bronze plaque set into the pavement which showed the extent of the town in times past to be of interest.
