Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Cervantes National Theater was founded by Maria Guerrero and her husband, Fernando Díaz de Mendoza, in 1921. Architects Emilio Repetto and Fernando Aranda Arias built it in the Spanish Baroque style.
It opened with a production of Lope de Vega's La Dama Boba. However, with the coming of radio and many other theatres, it lost its popularity and closed in 1926. President Marcelo Torcuato de Alvear, whose wife, Regina Pacini, had been an opera singer and avid patron of the arts, came to its rescue and created the Teatro National, the home of the National Comedy Theater in 1933.
In June 1961, a fire partially destroyed the Theater. A new building was built in the same Spanish style, with three basements, a ground floor, and thirteen upper floors. Today, it not only hosts theatrical performances and chamber music concerts but also intimate shows.

TIP: Tickets are inexpensive and can be bought online, but performances, unless otherwise listed, are in Spanish.

The tickets are highly subsidized and the place is wonderful.

We just saw a beautiful production directed and created by Gerardo Hochman, called Leonardo.

The level of artistic creativity in this country is amazing.

This is a tour like no other, and a fine experience in which you get a lot of value for your 90 pesos (Oct 2017). Unlike most guided tours, this is hosted by a team of four highly skilled performers. With the help of the theatre staff, they deliver a 90-minute song, dance, comedy and slapstick performance that explains the theatre's history, construction/renovations, key performers and place as the Argentine National Theatre. The effort and energy they put into it is impressive. There is plenty of access to different areas of the building, and some element of audience participation.

We can get by with Spanish on a typical, spoken guided tour. But being presented in this unique manner made it harder for us to understand the Spanish content (in particular, references to local characters and history). And of course, it's not the sort of content that could be translated and presented in English - and nor should it. So - if you're not reasonably strong in Spanish, go along to appreciate the building and performance (which the fluent speakers absolutely loved) but be prepared to not get as much of the information as you might otherwise.

The theatre is absolutely stunning. You cannot miss it because it is such an imposant edifice in the middle of the square.

This theatre is very impressive. The 50 minute guide orientation was worth the money. We got our tickets the day before as there can be a long wait for tickets.
The guide was knowledgeable and gave interesting information about the theatre.
The decor is stunning and awesome. There was no expense spared for marble brought from Europe.
The Acustics is supposed to be one of the best in the world and famous singers have said that this is not good for them as every mistake is obvious.
A real must if you are in Buenos Aires.
