Expensive awful looking buildings mixed with very nice looking old houses. Tango breathes at every corner of this area at night, and visiting Gardel´s house was a pleasure :)
If you like Tango you must visit. Take a picture with Carlos Gardel (most famous Tango singer) You can also visit the Once Mall to buy something from Buenos Aires.
I went to Abasto to visit the Ticketek kiosk in the mall. I then walked around the Jewish part of the neighborhood, stopped in a great Judaica store and then had lunch. Not really worth a special trip.
Over a few years of traveling back and forth from NYC I have stayed in this neighborhood at least three times for more than one or two months. Why? Transport is easy, the Esquina de Gardel is nearby, and Azucar, a salsa studio is here....More
Even though there is a major shopping centre in the area, it's also full of squatters. Don't walk around here at night in particular!
