The site is very nice and interesting. It has been very well reconstructed. But it is awful to see a modern monument dedicated not to the old people who lived there, but to modern people who helped in the reconstruction. Very bad taste really. I´ve never seen something like that. And the monument was constructed over a place where there... More

We enquired in the local tourist office about visiting this attraction and we were advised that it is now closed together with the small adjacent cactus garden. I was unable to ascertain whether or not the closure was permanent.

The walk from town is not so far and this was a nice place to wander around exploring the old ruins. Just make sure that you have your sunscreen on, when the suns out :) Visited October 2015

Tilcara is a great little town with own simple identity. Adobe dwellings, Andean people, beautiful setting. You must visit.

We took the guided local tour and it was great to learn the history of the place, first built by the origin people and then conquered by the INCAS who brought all their knowledge that comes with a fee. they lived in this kind of fortress till the Spaniards invade America and finally won the battles.

For me, it was the first time seeing these huge cacti in such an astonishing number. You'll walk between them and the old ruins, to the top of the hill where an amazing 360 view probably will make you wanna sit down. Very easy hike for the intense experience.

Very interesting site. Takes 40-60 minutes. 20min walk from the town center. Entry fee is AR$50 p.P. and with the Ticket you get free Entry into the Museum, that's located at the town square. You can explore it on your own or wait for a guided tour (free). Most of the ruins are untouched, parts of it were restored to... More

This was one of the more interesting pucaras I've visiting, including Quilmes near Cafayate and Quitor near San Pedro de Atacama. There are two different walking routes that you can take, although you should definitely take the longer one. The ticket office will give you a brochure with helpful information about the structures you are seeing and the culture behind... More

Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to spend here. Ideally I would have liked to do a guided tour and learn more about the place and its former inhabitants. Also there is a nice botanical garden we didn't get to see. The place is well preserved and there is enough information on the pamphlets that you can do the walk... More

Be sure to read the English language guide leaflet they give you at the gate to understand what you are seeing, in terms of local indigenous history. It's not a big site but it is spectacularly located.
