I was sat in the bar opposite after arriving in town late, and noticed the Welsh flag on the monument. Next morning we had a good look and became more aware of the stories of the Welsh settlers, so the monument performed it's task. It...More

It is surprising to find this prominent Sesquicentenial (150 years) monument on the foreshore to early Welsh settlers who were helped with food and survival techniques by the local Theuelche Indians. Shame to see it fenced like it is, but maybe they had to protect...More

Apart from seeing this at Port Madryn to celebrate the arrival of the Welsh n the Mimosa from Liverpool UK in 1865 we went to the Welsh towns Gaiman & Trelew which were fascinating

The Monument is within easy walking distance from the town centre. However as they had the fence located close by it made taking photos a little difficult. It is a nice memorial to the Welsh settlers of a bygone era.

Monument to the strength for the Welsh woman who having survived the journey from Wales in a fairly small sailing ship to Argentina in 1865 .The monument shows a woman turning her back to the sea and towards the land where their future lay .

Of great significance, celebrating the Welsh settler women that turned their back on the sea and insisted that the menfolk stayed here and made a go of life in Patagonia. The monument itself is not especially attractive.

While the city isn't replete with "must-see" attractions, this oceanfront monument is a big one-if just for a "been there, done that" photo. The 1970s looking shape isn't particularly attractive and the fact that the monument is surrounded by fencing just makes it worse. But,...More
