Estancia Huechahue is a family owned working cattle ranch located in Northern Patagonia, Argentina. Easily reached from San Carlos de Bariloche and San Martin de los Andes in the Lake District, Huechahue is a perfect addition to your Patagonian itinerary. Come to horseback ride, fly fish, take cooking classes, golf, or just to relax at a traditional Estancia. As a working cattle ranch, Huechahue is a wonderful place to experience traditional estancia life. About 900 head of Hereford cattle and 80 horses are spread over 15,000 acres. Traditional Argentine cowboys, or gaucho’s, roam the ranch, tending to the animals and joining guests on rides and cattle drives. The farm itself is virtually self-sufficient. Water is drawn from an aquifer and electricity from a turbine. Much of the food served at Huechahue comes from the surrounding land. We offer a B&B option of hotel room with breakfast included. Lunch and dinner are optional and paid for separately. We would be happy to help you plan your activities while you are here. Other guests like an all-inclusive package which includes activities like horseback riding or fly fishing. Guests can be assured of excellent services and a warm welcome. The atmosphere at Huechahue is relaxing and genial. Eight guest cabins are spread out through the orchard, a short stroll from the main lodge. Guests gather in the dining room for meals, or the large "quincho" for asados and grill outs over an open fire. We hope to see you soon!

We stayed four nights at the estancia and managed to fit in three big horse rides and a day's fly fishing. During this time we didn't see another human being - only condors, eagles, vultures, deer, wild boar, llamas (and trout). The scenery was breathtaking and the terrain sometimes quite challenging but we were always expertly guided, particularly by Amelia.... More

It's hard to know where to start, other than to say Jane, Oli, Diana and Amelia make you feel like you are part of the ranch family. They look after their animals with the same passion they take care of their guests. Diana did all of our laundry, whilst cooking superb meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner - horse riding... More

Well, where shall I start. Didnt know what to expect. Amazing home cooked food with local ingredients (try the dulce de leche icecram made with real milk and eggs). Fabulous views and rides. The guides are excellent and easy going. Go up on the horses to the caves and you will certainly be up for a surprise. The staff is... More

We spent two nights on the estancia while driving south on route 40. It was a wonderful experience where we enjoyed life on a working ranch. We were able to fit in many horse rides (including the afternoon we arrived and the morning of the day we left), each of them a different adventure - ride and hike up a... More

This was the best holiday ever Jane and the Gauchos were amazing the views are something I will always keep in mind. I met some amazing people in the group and we still keep in touch. The horses were just amazing so willing and sure footed I've always wanted to go back but it's just so far away. The food... More

I spent 4 nights / 3 days at the estancia last week with my husband. We had a great time, even my husband, who wasn't able to ride, but seemed to enjoy standing around in water trying to catch fish..and taking around 500 photos (none of any fish). The estancia is extremely well run by the owner Jane and her... More

I'm just back from a 4 night stay at the estancia - what an incredible experience. We went out with the gauchos every day to round up cattle, often riding for 5 hours at a time. The estancia is beautiful, with horses grazing on the lawn. Jane does a fantastic job with the food and at night we would sit... More

My friend & i booked the across the andes ride & were part of an 8 strong group. The horses were tacked waiting for us on arrival & things just got better from there. There were 3 gauchos escorting & looking after us plus 4 catering guys who set up & cleared the camp each day. Views amazing, group great,... More

We didn't experience any of the issues in MurrayMantis's review: the estancia was newly redecorated, though, so maybe Jane had made sure those criticisms were addressed. For our tastes, it was perfect. We stayed in a swankier fishing estancia later in the week, but it didn't feel anything like as friendly and comfortable - and it certainly didn't have Jane's...
