About
The Jewish experience in Arizona is a unique one. Many Jews arrived in Arizona in the 19th century and played vital roles in the development of Arizona's mining industry, agriculture, and commerce which helped to settle the American West. Since then the Jewish population has become integrated into virtually every aspect of Arizona life. The AZJHS is dedicated to preserving local Jewish history, promoting awareness of our state's diverse history, and making local history accessible to all. Visitors to our newly renovated home, now called the Cutler Plotkin Jewish Heritage Center, can experience firsthand a bit of local history when they tour our 90 year old landmark historic building. Come explore our museum gallery, stay for one of our many fun, culturally rich programs, share a photograph with our archive, join our monthly book discussion group, or celebrate a special occasion in our beautiful sanctuary.

A beautifully restored building with a wide range of programming
Feb 2020
Catch the current exhibit at the Jewish Heritage Center, located in the first synagogue in Phoenix, and admire the restoration of the building.

Great Jewish experience
Feb 2019 • Couples
Jewish culture is in short supply in Phoenix. Cutler-Plotkin is a former synagogue, converted to a cultural center. The exhibit we went to was "Violins of Hope", which is a portion of a touring exhibit that is currently (Feb/Mar 2019) making the rounds in various venues in the area. We went to the photography exhibit then attended an evening showing of a documentary of the same name. Clean, friendly environment. Plenty of parking. Right next to Burton Barr Library. Intimate (small) but there's enough room in there to showcase a medium sized exhibit.

Real Nice Wedding Venue
Jul 2018 • Family
My son and his wife held both their wedding and reception here. It combined traditional charm with modern touches. Next to the main hall is an art gallery that has rotating exhibits. On the weekend we were there they had beautiful photos of Israel depicting everyday life in the region. Being able to mix and mingle in that space was a very pleasant experience.

Great place for a wedding
Apr 2016
My brother in laws had both their wedding and reception here. We loved it and had a fabulous time. The space was small but intimate. For the ceremony, it allowed for everyone to be able to see the couple up close and personnal inside and the reception was outside with plenty of room for all the tables, hosted bars, and dance floor. There was plenty of parking which was close which was nice and convenient. Made for the perfect wedding.

Historical and Welcoming
May 2016 • Couples
Stellar place Jewish history and models old values. From owner to staff, a jewel in our community! Warm and welcoming this place is inclusive for all walks of life to come and learn about Jewish history and little known facts with amazing installations of art and history that change periodically. Serving the community with films and offering meeting rooms for cultures of all kinds to have luncheons, celebrations etc. I highly recommend this place in Phoenix location.
