Lots of local history
Sep 2019
Went here to check it out and was very impressed. It is on the VA facility but the base is open so no problems for civilians. It is a little hard to find, but if you follow the signs you should be Ok, otherwise just ask, there is always someone walking around. It is in an old Offices quarters up on the hill. The museum itself has a lot of stuff from the early years of Fort Whipple. Several floors of exhibits and usually a few docents to answer questions. It is not open every day so check the web site before you go

Could not get in, because of stupid VA restrictions
Jan 2019 • Family
We drove up there, but we encountered a sign warning "firearms not allowed on this property" or something to that effect. In Arizona, especially rural Arizona, most people have firearms in their car. But, sadly, the museum is on Veterans Administration property, and hey, we can't let veterans have guns in their cars, can we? And yes, I'm a vet and run into that elsewhere too.

So, since this isn't pointed out in the name or online presence, one star. What was I supposed to do? Stop the car on the two lane, no shoulders road, and bury my gun?

Nice Little Gem FULL of History!
Aug 2017 • Friends
We recently visited this museum after having toured the Sharlot Museum in downtown Prescott. The web site boasted lots of rich history; we were not disappointed! Apart from being a little difficult to find and parking scarce, this small museum is worth the visit. It is very interesting with all the history from our civil war, Prescott and its history of being Arizona's first capital and so on. The museum curator was friendly and gave great detailed accounts and provided souvenirs too! She was amazing--we really appreciated her upbeat personality and wisdom about the museum.

The museum is very small but interesting. It includes both military and medical history for this area of Prescott. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable.

Army History in AZ!
Nov 2016 • Couples
This place is interesting, and has a long history.
At one time this Fort had 1/5 TH of our Nations Army stationed here back in the 1860's. Then after being used as a Military base it turned into a hospital treating patients for TB and housed nearly 1100 beds. Then became the VA hospital in the 1920's.

The signs are that well marked just keep your eyes low to see the signs, and when you park go to the front of the building to enter.
Call prior to going because they are on a limited schedule with the lack of funds. Donations are greatly appreciated.

Interesting Museum for History of Arizona Army Post that Morphed into a VA Hospital
Sep 2016
Museum is run by Sharlot Hall Museum volunteers. The 6,000 sq foot house has photos and artifacts from the Army post days, then the days when Fort Whipple was a TB hospital and then its transition into a VA hospital today. Besides the museum on the grounds, there are a number of old buildings still being used for medical services today.

A Prescott hidden gem
Jun 2016 • Couples
Who would have known that NYC's Mayor LaGuardia spent his informative years at Ft. Whipple, now a VA Medical Center.
The history is amazing and in such a small museum.
Our guide, Ray, gave a great VERY comprehensive tour and made sure we didn't miss a thing.
Worth taking the time to visit this museum which gives you a great background of not only the Fort and Hospital but the whole Prescott area.
And the price is Free but Donations are gladly accepted to keep this gem running.

A step back in history
Jun 2016 • Friends
This was a pleasant small museum to visit. There is a lot of history to learn of the Fort which tells one what was involved in the days from the "old" west to the times of WWII and present. The curator was extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

A Historic Experience

We toured the Fort Whipple Museum in Prescott, AZ. We had a wonderful docent by the
name of Barbara who was very knowledgable regarding the early history. The house is
really lovely as well.
