Worth a visit, part of the Civic Center plaza in Old Town Scottsdale. Free admission (donations encouraged). This small museum will give you some history about the founding and early history of the town, along with vignettes of a school, home, and business from the early 1900's. A volunteer on duty will be happy to answer questions about the area.

This museum was located in Old Town in the little old school house. It is basically one large room with some interesting displays on the school and other artifacts. The volunteers were very nice; however, their knowledge was limited. My husband asked many questions that they did not know how to answer.

WE came upon this Museum while walking around the Historic part of Scottsdale. It gave a very good history of the city and its founding fathers. Many of the displays inside were very interesting.There is even one on baseball.

We made the short walk to the museum from the Old Town Scottsdale tourist area and enjoyed a quick look at the photos of Scottsdale before all of the development, and household and commercial artifacts from times gone by. There's not a lot here, but it is interesting, and there is no charge for admission.

Located in an1910 building which started as a 2-room schoolhouse and went through several transformations, including being a Grocery Store owned by a colorful character named Jew Choo Song (his photo is in the museum), this small historical collection is mostly related to the building of the Arizona canal and to Winfield Scott, the Army Chaplain responsible for the creation of the current city.
Scott came to AZ via Gettysburg, in a party that included his wife and his Army horse, Old Maud, retired from the Service at the same time Scott himself retired. When he found out that a canal is being built, he realized the farming potential of that land that was going to be irrigated and purchased 600 acres at a price of either .50 cents or $2.50, depending on whether you read the story at the Entrance of the Museum or in the Middle of the exhibits. But it gets even more confusing at the end, where two Purchase Certificates are displayed, with the same number, one year difference and displaying the two different prices. We attempted to get the mystery solved by asking questions but the very friendly volunteer docents were at a loss to explain it and promised to investigate later. Calling the one room a "museum" is an overstatement, but it has some interesting photos and it is free. In other words, if history is your thing, go for it! It's located in Scottsdale Civic Center, in Old Town Scottsdale, in pleasant surroundings. TIP: Go there on Saturday and walk one block to the Farmers Market which is a sheer joy. Then, have lunch at Pepin, an authentic Spanish restaurant next door (see my review)

I love this little museum that stands as a testimony and history of what the beautiful old west was like before it was raped by high rollers, developers, and people with absolutely no respect for the wilderness, wildlife, water, or sustainable communities. Have you ever wondered what these Californicators will do when there is no longer enough water to sustain the out-of-control population occupying the desert???? Please stop by and see the historical documents, photographs, diorama of a classroom, and other artifacts. There is a curator on duty to ask questions of who freely engages with the public. A self-guided tour is worth a little bit of your time ~ very interesting!!!

To thoroughly enjoy this gem of a city getting a feel of its history is imperative. A walking tour of scotsdale inevitably brings you to this little gem of scotsdales past. Staff were friendly and informative.

No little hamlet would be complete without its own "little red schoolhouse." This one is genuine. Scottsdale takes great pride in this venue, center of the area's tourist district and home to the local CofC. Hosts lots of historical exhibits, rotating shows, and knowledgeable staff. Ya gotta take a peek. Located central to the Scottsdale Mall park.

The exhibits are small, real small, and the objects are mostly from people's personal collections, antique shops and knick-knacks. The history is minimal too. You could probably see the entire museum in no more than ten minutes.
