About
The Sedona Heritage Museum presents the history of the Sedona area, from post-Civil War days to the present. Located in Jordan Historical Park, the Museum is composed of 3 historic landmark buildings, a tent house replica, and a restored movie set building; exhibits of pioneer mementos, farm equipment, historic photos, and more can be found throughout the buildings and along the pathways of the park. Besides an encounter with history, it's a great place for a picnic lunch. And the beauty of Sedona's red rocks makes it a perfect location for a wedding ceremony.

Great Museum
Feb 2021
Great find, was very interesting and factual about Sedona's history. We rented the audio tour - took a good hour to tour. Also had a great little gift shop where we picked up all our gifts to bring home - no sales tax (10%) since it's a museum. Nice, friendly staff. Definitely recommend.

Visit to Sedona Heritage Museum
Mar 2020
This is a small museum that is housed in a former apple farmer's home. We took the audio tour and found it interesting. The audio information itself was good except the volume was not high enough and it was difficult to hear over the voices of other visitors in the museum. The device didn't seem to adjust the volume high enough. Perhaps it was just my device. At any rate, it was a rainy day and something interesting to do to learn about the local area. I had a concern about a room in the home being used for "archives" in that it didn't appear (at least at first glance) to be climate controlled or that the documents being saved were being saved in a way that will preserve them for the long term. I understand it's a small museum and likely a qualified archivist is not in the budget, but a temporary archivist to get the ball rolling would be a step in the right direction so that current preservation techniques are being observed.

Thanks for your review. We do limit the volume on the audio devices so they are not blaring throughout the museum. Unfortunately, it can be hard to hear when there are a lot of people around. We've tried to balance it as best we can. It is so good to hear your concerns about historic documents! Just to set your mind at ease- most of the items in the library are copies; the original photos and documents are actually stored in a different area that is climate controlled (and has restricted access), along with over 5000 objects. You are correct- a professional archivist is not in the budget; but we do try to follow professional museum standards. We have had evaluations done by professionals, continue to further our education through workshops, memberships in professional organizations, and subscribe to industry publications. Thanks for visiting!

History of Sedona
Nov 2019
Small house with an interesting story. There were volunteers who were quite knowledgeable about the house, the family that lived there and the Sedona community that it represents. Really enjoyed discussing, and was astounded by, what were modern conveniences in the 1930's Sedona versus 1930's east coast, such as electricity, indoor plumbing and phone service. We walked around the grounds which have beautiful scenery and views. Visited some of the other buildings, such as the barn and the Telegraph Office which was in a John Wayne movie. We spent about 1-2 hours here, taking our time.

Aren't the differences amazing?? The one room cabin here was built the same year as the Empire State Building! Two different worlds.

What a great find worth the stop! We took the audio tour and learned so much about the town, the history and even the geology of the area. The people working there are so helpful and kind. The curators paid close attention to detail.
