Hermit Trail is west of the visitors center and it's on a red shuttle route, I think on its last stop. This route doesn't run during winter, so you need to drive yourself there. There are many places to stop along the way (I mean by car), walk around and soak the beauty you see. Unfortunately, you cannot walk long,... More

My first visit to the park, and the woman who worked at the visitor center at the South Rim recommended the Hermit Trail. So glad she did! I loved this hike. I went out for a day hike. I was on the trail at 9:30, and back out by 3:00. I fell short of making it to Santa Maria Spring,... More

Unbelievable views!! Most of the trail didn't have safety railings so be careful! We were traveling with our 9 year old son in January 2017 and it made me a nervous wreck, but as long as your careful with your footing and watch where your going it'll be okay.

The walk from the parking lot to the visitors center is very close if you're curious to find out information about the trail. The trail itself is a great hike to some of the best the area has to offer. We enjoyed immeancely .

We visited the canyon on 1/1 and because of the weather it was closed. Too dangerous with the snow and ice. Will have to make sure we visit when we return.

It had snowed the week before we went so did not go far but enjoyed having the place to ourselves. They had cleats available to buy for your shoes to go on trail but we decided to do trails another visit.

Although we opted not to have hot chocolate, my friend and I sat by the fire, took photos, browsed the gift shop, and read the signs telling the history. I also learned of the option to hike the rim and will plan to do this with my husband when we visit next year.

We were able to drive this 8 mile road and take in each of the vistas. SPECTACULAR. Each view was more amazing then the last one.

I live to drive up to hermit's rest, I love to go set in one of the seats and watch the sun go down. Great place to go hang out where it's quiet.

Take the red route bus to Hermit rest stop and hike the trail back to the village. Total distance is about 12.5km but if you start early it is very quiet. The first half of the hike is slightly strenuous (from Hermits rest to the Abyss) but views of the Canyon is amazing. After that is just a walk in... More
