We were very impressed with the visitor center to start our visit. While we are far from avid birders, we enjoyed watching numerous water fowl, pelicans and osprey. The Painted Desert trail was impressive. Worth the stop.

To see the Sand Dunes, in this area is interesting, the dunes are changing all of the time, just a desolate looking place, but should be seen.

Let me first be clear....the Painted Desert Trail is located within the refuge. And it's not difficult to find if you follow the BROWN signs. Go past the first turn outside of Yuma for the Proving grounds to the turn marked Martinez Lake Road and...More

I don't know why people have a difficult time finding this, as in other reviews. It is well marked and easy to find. Just don't turn into the Yuma Proving Ground entrance. It's the next turn further north. There is a very nice visitors center...More

The Imperial National Wildlife Refuge is located about a half an hour from Yuma. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to stop by the visitor center, but proceeded directly to the look-out points above the river and to the Painted Desert Trail. The Painted Desert Trail...More

We really wanted to see the tortoise habitat. We drove along the road for several miles, but we did not see any wildlife.

Another great wildlife refuge along the Colorado River. We started at the visitor’s center and watched the video and walked to the covered overlook. From there, we drove to Mesquite Point where we could walk down to the water. There were some ducks, coots and...More

I confess we weren't heading to the Imperial National Wildlife Refuge, but pleasantly surprised to find it. We were planning on kayaking at Martinez Lake - but our GPS led us astray. We didn't see any wildlife, but the inside displays are excellent. They have...More

Lots to read about, a good little outing for the afternoon. Unfortunately we went on a windy cool day and never got to see any wild life. Did get to learn quite a bit about plants thou.
