Great hike with Menuka Roka (our guide).
She showed us the daily live in the hills around Kathmandu.
Great hike in preparing our trekking Annapurna Circuit.
Love the sunset at Nagarkot viewpoint.

The trail is rather well marked with white and yellow blazes. To find a good entry point to the trail start just past the local high school in Nagarkot. First portion of the trail is through the beautiful Nepalese forest. They were actually working on maintenance of the trail during our walk as perhaps it needed a little refresher. Overall the trail is relatively easy for average avid hiker. There are series of aged stone stairs where one has to pay attention. Many beautiful sites and plants, little springs and streams. You finally come out in a simple little village which you can explore as it has some tea houses and many nice view points.
You can come back to Nagarkot via the reversal of the same route.

We did this walk on the day after we arrived. It's a great walk for everyone because there are 3 variations and distances. There is a short nature trail then a longer walk of about 8 km. Finally there is the 12 km route. The landscape is varied and beautiful. You can walk through tiny villages and see all the terraced fields. The locals are so friendly and happy. The 'weed' growing openly by the path might have something to do with that! We set off to do the 12 but ended up doing only 8. It was baking hot and we were running low on water. The first part of the walk is all downhill and in the shade. As soon as you start climbing the shade disappears. If you do this walk on a hot day I would recommend doing it in reverse. Then you will be in shade for most of the climbing. Look out for the eagles. The views are spectacular in places.

This trail is a fantastic way to see the beautiful nature of nepal. The forest walk is so peaceful and the mountains are just stunning. The trail is really well laid out. A really great way to spend an afternoon even if you're not an experienced hiker!

A lovely 3 hour walk.... a little up and a little down, a moderate effort required. But not difficult. Beautiful panorama and the mountains on a clear day. You will need a map or a guide... it is a little tricky to know the way!

This panoramic Hiking Trail is perfect enough for good 3 to 3.5 hours ideal for everyone from young travellers to family with children as it is pretty easy hike. This hike includes Nagarkot Nature Trail + Tamang Village Walk (starting from kartike village) + Panoramic Hiking Trail with 180 degree views of the stunning landscapes with lush greenery. You will enjoy the time in nature and burn some good calories in this trek. Perfect to enjoy the stunning mountain views in quiet and with fresh mountain air. The hike is through beautiful pine trees and bamboo which is very beautiful with birds chirping. After you will complete the nature trail, you will reach Kartike village from where you can see the mountain villages perched on the hill with terraced farmlands and if the weather is clear, you will awarded the stunning himalayan views. It is a very safe and secure hiking which can be done with or without guide. however it is still recommended to have a guide as you might get lost on the way as there are no clear signboards or directions on the way. For your information, the second part of hike after nature trail, starts from kartike and ends at dhanda gaun (gaun means village in nepali). where your landmark should be a school with blue color roof. from that school, it's a good uphill walk around 5 minutes. From there you need to turn left with a very inspiring views of the rolling hills and villages. You will make one whole loop of the village. It is around 12 km hike and it is very very beautiful time in nature in quiet and peace.

We had such an incredible experience wondering around the trail. We really enjoyed walking through several small villages and live vicariously through the locals. What an awesome time!

Nagarkot is not far from Kathmandu, so i'ts possible to visit for a single day or stay over. However, the roads are bad and getting worse every year, so plan around 3 hours by private vehicle for a one-way trip. Also, if you want to see the sunrise or sunset over the Langtang range of the Himalayas, it's best to stay over. Choose a hotel with mountain view if you can afford it.

The hiking trail is very nice, but have realistic expectations. You're still 70-100km away from those snow-capped peaks. It's still awe-inspiring, but it's not going to show up that big on your camera.

Also, during past visits, we've experienced that locals will point to different obscure points in the range and say that it's Everest. It might be, but it also might not. Everest is about 160km East-Northeast from Nagarkot, which is not the direction in which most people point when they say "That's Mount Everest."

This is still one of the best, most affordable and time-efficient ways in Nepal to get a good view of the Himalayas.

TIP: Don't expect to see much except from December to February. During the rest of the year you'd be fortunate to see the mountains.

Scenic uphill walk to the 360 view tower with an elevation gain of 200m from where you can relish the unparalleled Himalayan vistas, 5 out of 8 highest peaks of Nepal can been seen from here in a crystal clear day along with lots of 7000’s meter and 6000’s meter high peak. Then, you will pass through a serene walk inside pine forest with occasional bird watching opportunity as well. There is also a monastery inside the forest for Buddhist retreat though permission required to enter. After the end of pine forest, you will encounter a cross road leading to different places. You need to go straight towards a temple of ganesh and then turn left.

The trail will firstly passes through small bush followed by two countryside villages of thakurigaun and gurung gaun. Gaun means village in Nepal before returning back to town. Third part of the hike passes through the wonderful trail passing through different villages commanding unobstructed views of rolling hills, verdant valleys, lush forests, snowcapped himalayas. Very therapeutic experience with green escape in Nature which we call it Nature therapy.

Time: 3 hours
Distance: 10 km
Level: Medium
Point of interest: view tower, pine forests, mountain views, villages.
((Highly recommended for families with children as well.))
