Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We followed a Lonely Planet walking tour that started here and it was really interesting. This is far from the main tourist centre so you will be around mostly Nepali people. The temples in Patan are older and different from those in Kathmandu proper so it is worth checking out. In fact, I tend to like Patan more than Kathmandu and this walking tour was one of the reasons why.

Patan is absolutely amazing, and the gate -however pretty - cannot possibly compete with the complex fascinating city of Patan itself.

Patan is my born place. Patan is one of most cultural and ancient city in Kathmandu valley. You will be great visiting the temples, stupas and durbar square in Patan.

This is not the best part of Patan or a very classy exit or entrance but it is there and allows you in and out. At some stage it make have looked spectacular but not so much now.

Beautiful gate between the old Patan and Kathmandu, also, a good place to visit on a "shopping day": next to a big bookstore (as I was told by local, but it was closed on that day) not too far from 3 fairtrade souvenir shops (on the main road going down into Kathmandu).

Okay, so the gaye isn't great but if you have walked out here then at least you've got away from most of the tourists and seen a bit of Patan.
Carry on down the road (past the bus station) for 5 minutes. Via left and you come to a lovely little cafe (Cafe Cheeno) and just past it a big shopping mall.

This is an entrance gate to enter Patan. Beautifully drawn arts on the pillars. Nothing special though.

It's free, it's a gate. Not sure I'd recommend someone go out of their way to visit this, but if you're passing and want to tick it off a list of things to see, then go for it!
