You cannot visit Idar-Oberstein and not visit the Felsenkirche. It is a steep climb up from the center of town and just when you think you made it, there's two hundred more steps. There is a minimal entrance fee (I think it was two Euros),...More

The hike from town is steep and is well worth it. Access into the church requires paying a fee and then you also get information about the church. The story about the brothers fighting and killing one of them is interesting. The church is small...More

This is really a nice cute church built into the rocks. And there are still church services every third Sunday of the month apparently. I loved the view of Idar-Oberstein. There isnt much to see once inside, except for admiring the architecture and town view....More

The church is tucked into a mountain and you must climb the stairs to reach it. The view is most spectacular overlooking the village. A quaint and tiny church. The village below is picturesque and lovely to stroll some shops and have a refreshment.

If you live in Baumholder and have not visited the church in the Rock your missing out. You can walk or ride to the top and walk down. Two castle ruins with a restaurant in one. Better GO!

We enjoyed our day of walking around Idar Oberstien but didn't realise that the church would be completely closed off for another month. It's still a lovely view from the top of the hill, but worth considering if you're set on seeing the inside.

Pretty church with a gorgeous view of the town. It is a pretty steep and hard climb but totally worth it. The church itself is pretty simple but the old history makes it worth a visit.
