Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Bective Abbey was such a cool place that my friend and I stumbled upon. It is just like a castle ruin that you can explore. It's not super big but if you are in the area it is 100% worth the stop.

Unexpectedly, we enjoyed it more than the Trim Castle. The place is free and very close to Trim castle so for a nice day, we definitely suggest visiting both.

I'm a regular enough visitor to Bective, a couple of times a year anyway, and I could not recommend it highly enough. Its just such a beautiful place only 5-10 minutes from Trim/Navan. It's free to enter and theres a small car park.
The abbey is totally open to explore bar a few chambers which are gated as they must not be in good enough co edition. It is a Cistercian Abbey founded in 1147 as a daughter house for Mellifont though much of what you see today dates from the 15th century.
The cloister is the obvious highlight. There is a defensive tower which was added later and many of the walls are in remarkably good condition.
There are nicely kept lawns around it and it's a lovely place for a stroll especially on such a lovely sunny day as I had today.

Well worth a stop if in the area. Hundreds of years of rich history and beautiful ruins.
Only takes a few minutes to walk the perimeter

Bective Abbey is another atmospheric and serene abbey with a fine cloister and well worth a stroll around. You may well find yourself alone, as I was, to imagine. No toilets, Cistercian 1147 and “daughter house of Mellifont Abbey”. Open 24/7. The Boyne river flows under a mediaeval bridge alongside the abbey. The Abbey was used in the Braveheart movie.

Loved this site. Again, if you are into history then this is a nice place to visit. There is a small car park and you have a short walk to see the ruins. You have full access to the Abbey, or what is left of it. Anyone that has mobility issues will have some difficulty inside the ruins but may be able to tour the outside of the Abbey. This is another Braveheart movie location.

This was located 5 minutes from our hotel which made it an easy stop. It was a rainy day that we visited and had the place to ourselves. You can't spend more than 20 minutes here, but you are free to climb through the various parts of the abbey. If you are in the area I would recommend a stop.
