- Andrew O5 contributionsPrivate tourwe arranged a private tour and then dinner. The tour guide was brilliant, funny and educational with a deep knowledge of the place and its long and shorter term history. The stories of the fire damage in particular were amazing. The meal that followed was also excellent ( one of our party is a top level chef and confirmed this) and with excellent and attentive staff. Only thing i didnt like was the dark decor and lighting in the Gandon room, but thats not going to stop me coming back. Highly recommendedVisited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 28 November 2023
- Siobhan MurphyDublin, Ireland9 contributionsAfternoon tea treat. We went for afternoon tea yesterday. We were greeted at the gate by Gavin and that was the start of our amazing experience. Tea was served in the ballroom which was magnificently decorated for Christmas. The old silver candelabras added to the ambiance. The food was an excellent selection of sandwiches, scones, beautiful pastries and chocolate treats. A great choice of tea blends. There was a choice of prosecco or delicious sparkling lavender water. Erica took wonderful care of us . She was knowledgeable and attentive and appeared to really enjoy her job. After tea there were carols and the lighting of the beautiful yew tree in the courtyard. Gavin then gave us a very informative and interesting tour of the castle. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience and really can not recommend it enough. Enjoy.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 11 December 2023

- motorcar1Dublin, Ireland14,663 contributionsSlane Castle visitWent for a drive today and decide to go to Slane and where is better to visit than the famous Slane Castle, home of Lord Montcharles and his family and venue for many famous music concerts over the years. The Slane Distillery is there too and you can do the distillery tour, which we have not done yet. We had coffee in the bar and a lovely walk in the grounds.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 February 2024
- Cynthia L37 contributionsA Traditional Place Responding To Contemporary PressuresWe went multiple times for Sunday brunch and to explore the grounds. I believe each time, I had the best cappuccino in Ireland! The food was wonderful and the atmosphere was enchanting. We were treated like royalty by Cheryl and the rest of the staff. We travel off season, for the month of March. Hence miss out on some experiences. Yet we remain in one community and explore the region with day trips and hikes. The first Sunday, the family near us shared excellent insights about areas we may enjoy exploring. Also, some chat about politics Irish Life vs American Life. Hence, I developed a great deal of attachment to Slane Castle. Every walk we would run into locals. Once a couple with a small child who were out enjoying the grounds. Always great talks discovering more to do that we might explore. I wanted to return our last Sunday in Ireland. As I came out of the restroom, my husband was talking to Matthew, who was about to begin a tour and invited us. I almost said no, because I was filled with emotion about our time there and could feel myself tearing up. However I agreed, and it was the Matthew, us and another gentleman, who eventually had to exit the tour. Matthew was incredibly engaging, knowledgeable as well as respectful. I mentioned something he said that reminded me of a section in a book I was reading. He instantly asked, “Oh, what are you reading?”, which then lead to wonderful conversation that was a true dialogue about some complex issues. Truly back and forth. I was able to share some things in my head, that Mathew heard with his heart. He shared some insights and encouragement that still echo in my heart. I’m so grateful we experienced the tour, but more importantly our time with Matthew was precious.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 March 2024
- Social Events I2 contributionsIf you can please eighty women at the same time, it has to be good!We hosted an event for our Association in the Castle and all 80 members who attended couldn't have been more impressed. They manage to pull off the perfect mix of professional service while still maintaining the atmosphere that you are being hosted at home. Not easy to do. The venue itself is authentically prestigious without being ostentatious. The staff are efficient, helpful, professional and warm and friendly. The food was delicious and the presentation was excellent. We were "delighted with ourselves". Can't wait to go back!Visited April 2024Travelled on businessWritten 22 April 2024
- Misty55GravesendGravesend, United Kingdom91 contributionsA Hidden Delight in the countryside. We were very lucky to get an extra couple of tickets for the castle tour. So glad we did. The young man who led the tour was named Matthew, but to me he was a look a like Bradley Cooper! He was a local young man whose grandfather's before him looked after the horses in the stables of the castle that now houses the Distillery. So he had a lot of local knowledge as well as the info of the Castle. We started with a short film of the 8th Marquis Henry Conyngham. He told us that the fought really hard with the family to bring the castle back to life after the big fire in 1991. Matthew then took us through the tour of the rooms, he had a way of helping us understand how the castle came about and the different people who spent time there, including George IV who had a special relationship with an earlier Marquess! His way of taking the tour was very relaxed and so very informative. He took time to answer any questions that were asked of him. Nothing phased him, which helps in a group of different nations. As prior to the tour starting he asked most of us where we had come from, and if he had any pieces of info relating to the country he would include it. He even coped with a couple of very young visitors who found the tour a little harder for them to enjoy. He was an excellent tour guide who made the tour so much easier to understand and so enjoyable. Though I will add all the staff we met were very helpful. A tour that should not be missed.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 5 May 2024
- Climber652363Kilcock, Ireland3 contributionsVisit to Slane CastleWe had a great visit to Slane Castle, due in no small part to our tour guide Matthew, his knowledge of Slane Castle’s history to date and interaction within the group was exceptional. Lovely to see a “lived in” castle, wonderful grounds and Browns Bar to quench the thirst after a long walk. Will def go again 👍🏼Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 May 2024
- DairineKilmacanogue, Ireland15 contributionsWell worth visiting.A great tour. Our guide was Valerie and she hit the right note throughout the tour. Clear on her history, nicely relaxed, and very engaging. The castle has an interesting history, and a very interesting history in recent years. The video telling the story of growing up in the castle, complete with family photos, and the back stories from the concerts were really enjoyable. . Highly recommended.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 June 2024

Our tour guide William was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Slane Castle and its residents. He made the tour fascinating for all age groups. The tour took us through various rooms and through the many facets of the castle as rock venue and restoration project. The Slane distillery is also onsite but was unfortunately closed due to COVID 19 restrictions but that gives us another excuse to visit again. Do bring a mask, you will be politely asked to wear one.

As a family of 4 adults and 1 teenager, we visited Enchanted Kingdom last night (Sunday, 24 November 2024) and we were thoroughly underwhelmed. For the price of €130, we expected much more.
Complaint:
Lack of Attractions: The event promised a multidimensional parallel world of art and magic, but there was very little to see. Many attractions were not working, and the sound was either absent or incomprehensible.
Misleading Description: The event was described as an immersive nighttime adventure filled with wonder and interactive storytelling. However, we found no adventure or marvel. The paths were muddy, and there was nothing remarkable to experience.
Lack of Fantasy Elements: The Enchanted Kingdom was supposed to be a place where fantasy comes to life, with glowing ice sculptures, flames in forests, and magical creatures. Instead, we only saw three magical creatures, no water features, and the talking trees were barely comprehensible due to sound issues.
Historic Venue Not Utilized: While Slane Castle is a historic and iconic venue, the event did not leverage its rich history or grand architecture effectively. The transformation into a world of pure magic was lackluster.
Value for Money: Given the high cost of €130 for our family, we expected a much more engaging and well-executed experience. Unfortunately, Enchanted Kingdom did not deliver on its promises.
We hope that the organizers will take this feedback into consideration to improve future events. As it stands, we cannot recommend Enchanted Kingdom to others based on our experience.

This was our 2nd stop of 5 on a 130 km tour north of Dublin. We crossed the 2003 Mary McAleese Boyne Valley Bridge on the M 1 and drove 12 km west on N 51 to this 1785 castle built by the Cunynghams. We parked at the closed Irish Whiskey Distillery entrance for our photo noting it was open on the weekends and for those large concerts for up to 80,000 goers.

This is a magnificent castle, it is packed full of exquisite art and phenomenal architecture, especially the Ballroom! Words can't really do it any justice to be honest, this has to be seen in the flesh.
The tour was very interesting and Tina was extremely knowledgeable of the castle and its history. You could tell that she really loved it.
The group was very small and she catered her tour of the castle to both young and old, even my 3yr old and 1yr old!
This castle is steeped in musical history and Tina had many a story to tell, a must see for any music lover!
This castle is not your average huge commercial castle tour, it is welcoming and personable, you can tell that this castle is a well loved family home. We even bumped into Alex, the Earl of Mount Charles and his family out walking their soggy dogs after they took a dip in the Boyne. Such a down to earth lovely family.
I would highly recommend the castle tour and taking a walk down by the Boyne. I look forward to visiting the Slane Distillery tour, well maybe without my 1 & 3yr old!!!

This is not a festival. 60eu for a family to walk through a field with very little going on. Foolishly we decided to have a drink at the bar before leaving. After 10 mins of being ignored and watching the staff chat to their friends at another table we left. Very very dissapointed with this "festival". The venue has such potential for something great. I can't imagine anyone who paid for this left feeling satisfied.

Food truck at Slane Castle was literally the worst and most overpriced food I've ever purchased. The person on the truck described the sandwiches as pulled pork when in fact they were room temperature thick fatty slices of porcetta on stale foccacia. The sausage rolls were also room temperature. €60 worth of food that went straight in the bin and we had to stop at inside out in the village instead. How the health inspector hasn't closed them down for serving luke warm pork I don't understand.

"Celtic Tiger" is well and truly back. Attended the "Púca Festival" for Halloween at Slane Castle. €65 for the family to walk a few hundred metres through some lights in the forest. Light show projected onto the castle was very impressive but for €65 (including a booking fee on top of the charge) I'd expect a some interactive activities, story telling or some value for money. Call me old fashioned! The "walk" leads you back to the courtyard where you have the opportunity if you want to be stripped of some more money for overpriced and very average food and drink fare. Avoid!

The tour lasts about one hour. The first 30 mins of so are spend in the first room where you watch a introductory video (about 15 mins) and get more background from the tour guide.
You then visit 3 more rooms (dining room, sitting room and ballroom) and a hallway. There is lots of information but very little to actually see. Tickets cost €14 so this really is not great value for money.
On another note, out tour guide (Padraig) was excellent. Again just a pity you cannot see more of the castle.

We’re here off-season, so it took us 3 trips to the grounds to get it correct. When to show up for a meal & where. It was well worth the effort. The place is magical with its history & elegance. The food was outstanding in value & quality. Service impeccable. Everyone kept saying, “Ya haf ta go der, U2 played there!” I love U2 as much as anyone, but I kinda avoid places when I get too much of that. Someone famous likes that a U2 will too! The grounds are stunning and there is a lengthy list of outdoor concerts hosted there. Reading the list, I got kind of melancholy thinking how wonderful it must be to experience any concert there. Took me right to that place in my soul of the outdoor venues I’ve experienced beautiful music. We choose to travel off season, and my guess is the place is vibrant and bustling in the summer months. The seating was tight, but we were in a cozy spot. Connected to a wonderful soulful Irish family. Chatted it up about everything, from the food to politics etc. They looked into our eyes and gave us wonderful advice about other places we’d enjoy! Thanks for the “Hill of Slane” recommendation guys! We were truly blessed by you taking us into your brunch conversation 🥰

Slane Castle is still the home of Lord Henry Mountcharles and the the famous Slane Concerts. The Castle looks amazing as you cross the Boyne Bridge entering Slane. Well worth a visit.

HiMy family is interested because some of us came with the Cunningham name. Is the Slane in the same group of castles owned at one time by Cunningham's as Finley Castle in Scotland and Kerelaw castle ruins in Stevenston Ireland? Can we show up and visit the Castle in April of 2018?, dhrdale. What would you like to know about this attraction?
