This is one of the finest beaches in the world.

I was there in October 2019. This is where the biggest waves in the world break but a little further out. Even though I didn`t see the huge waves, I loved the beach, the fact that I was in Nazare, and would have loved to stay in Nazare and spend some time here. I would love to see the huge waves that break here and photograph them but it was awesome just being here. The best place to watch them is next to the lighthouse on the north side.

Wave Watcher's Paradise

Whether watching from the clifftop or at sea level, the grandeur and sheer power of these waves, some of the highest ever surfed in the world, is undeniable. They peak in November-December, when surfers from all over the world descend to try to break the world record.

North Beach

This looks beautiful even from the clifftop. The waves were spectacular crashing on the beach in a flurry of foam even though the sea was not very rough. Lots of spray flying in the air and mini rainbows can be seen just before the waves break.

Big waves even in the not-Giant waves season! / Olas grandes aun en temporada de olas no-gigantes!

Best views are obtained from the Nazaré Lighthouse. This is a beautiful beach but I would not recommend you get in it unless you are an experienced swimmer!

Las mejores vistas se obtienen desde el faro de Nazaré. Es una playa hermosa pero no recomendaría nadar en ella a menos que tengas experiencia nadando!

What a beautiful beach!

We visited in August so we did not see the big waves but what we did see was just lovely.

The water is crystal clear and the beach sandy is light and fluffy.

Will visit again!

We parked at the top where the sign is and it was quite a long walk to the beach. We passed the statue and just kept walking. There weren't any huge waves when we were there (season) but it is a beautiful beach.

Great beach, but seems remote

The shoreline of Nazare is sort of in three sections. There's the tourist beach south of the fortress, the area around the fortress where the huge waves roll in, and the north beach or Praia do Norte. The north beach seems like the perfect place for a surfing fanatic to pitch a tent. For the rest of us, I don't think it offers much that cannot be enjoyed on the primary city beach.
