- JaapVeghel, The Netherlands162 contributionsSurprisingly entertainingSurprisingly entertaining. I think we walked for more than one hour from room to room in this castle. Several different exhibitions about Clothers, Culture, arms, music, and music instrument, interior design history in the castle and of course several paintings in the castle rooms.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 January 2024
- AlbertSalichsManresa, Spain22,446 contributionsVery nice historical castle in PtujPtuj Castle is the main castle located in the highest part of Ptuj, an historical town in Slovenia. It is a wonderful castle, where there is an historical museum and a little museum about kurents, a typical local character of Carnivals. In the visit, you can see some rooms and floors of the castle, where you can learn about the history and the place. Very interesting. Also, from the main entrance, you can see very nice views of the town and surroundings. Really a sightseeing point in the town.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 25 June 2024
- Ron SNew York City, New York5,930 contributionsPtuj CastleThe views of the town from Ptuj Castle are very nice. The castle is a museum with several exhibits: quite interesting festival costumes, 18h-19th century living quarters, armory, musical instruments, and old art. Seniors get a 25% discount for admission tickets. The large parking at the foot of the hill was full, we had to park on a zebra. There is a smaller parking lot on the way up to the castle and some people do drive there but there's a limited entry sign at the entrance with the text spelling the limitation in Slovenian so I decided not to take the risk.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 September 2024

The unique castle at the top of the city in a very suggestive location. The visit is full-bodied and well organised.
The permanent exhibitions present are of valuable value and great historical-artistic interest.
The attention to the little ones is also very positive. For this reason it is certainly recommended for both adults and families!

In the afternoon in August, there were probably two other tourists in Ptuj castle at the same time touring the castle's sights. Great. The castles are pretty similar in the end, that's why it was great to be able to look at everything in peace, when you often have to continue the journey just because there are too many tourists there at the same time. It was worth visiting here.

Beautiful views over the many orange roofs and indeed the water. The visit was absolutely worth it. Spacious and absolutely not stale. I stayed on every floor, captivated in every room.
What I did regret was that the restoration was closed on this sweltering hot day; outside temperature of 34 degrees. The room was accessible and there were 2 vending machines for cold and hot drinks. Still, I thought this was a downer on the visit.
From Maribor, Ptuj is easy to reach by local bus (every half hour) at a cost of only € 3.60 per adult and the ride takes plm. 35 minutes in a bus with air conditioning.
A tip for those who dread the climb or are less of a god: from the bus station in Ptuj a taxi up for € 4.00

The entrance fee is worth it, perhaps better on a cloudy day. Especially last rooms have interactive activities.
Audio guide in Italian would be useful. It is available in English, to be downloaded from your mobile phone.

Beautiful little old town where you can enjoy looking around. The Ptuj castle is definitely worth it.
Our hotel overlooked the whole of Ptuj.
You cannot swim in Lake Ptuj.
There are very large catfish of up to 3 meters long.

Visited the castle and most of the rooms are decorated with paintings. Some were very bad and/or the painted people were very ugly. We had a lot of fun discussing the looks of the nobility who once lived in the castle. Was a nice visit. Castle had some very nice views

Ptuj is almost as charming as Prague, but smaller, much smaller. However, the Ptuj Grad plays as prominent role as the Prague Castle. Frankly, Ptuj Castle is the first one since I visited the Prague one that feels like…Grad and not simply as a fortification. The views are amazing and the walk up is relatively easy (steep but short). If you only have a day or few hours to spend in this charming town, please start at the castle

If you’re really into the medieval period, look elsewhere. There are extensive exhibits here, very interesting, but much more focused on families living here in 1800s. And Ptuj didn’t have much to offer beyond this castle.
