- biagi579Dublin, Ireland35 contributionsBeautiful Find - stunning town.Fantastic place to visit for a few hours or an overnight stay. Lovely narrow streets, lots of tapas bars and cafe shops, it has a lovely feel to it. If you are driving, park at Calle de Diego Ponce car park, it has a 360 viewing platform on the 5th floor. It has amazing views of the rooftops of the 14 churches in the town. Steeped in history, it’s easy access to the La Alcazaba and is worth a visit, it cost €4 to enter and the views are spectacular. We ate in a lovely restaurant called Loulou, the tapas was very tasty and very cheap. Highly recommend it. 15 minutes drive away El Torcal de Antequera is Spains answer to the Grand Canyon, it’s breathtaking and you won’t be disappointed. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 December 2023
- OrtwinBreda, The Netherlands1,019 contributionsNice views of Antequera and surroundingsWe sneaked in through a back door (in fact a gate), when walking up the hill, so we cannot comment on the price/quality ratio. In any case, in February it is merely the views from the clock tower (former mosque call-for-prayer place), other than the garden, that is the attraction of this place. They were doing some construction at the time (reason why we could sneak in), so our picture is biased a bit. It might get better this summer. There are some explanation panels and you can download a tour via internet. In general, there is not so much to see inside the buildings, but is a nice setting when you are in the Antequera area.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 February 2024
- Elizabeth H61 contributionsHostoric FortHistoric Fort. Dominates the skyline above Antequara. Steep walk up and not particularly well sign posted. There appears to be a small road train from the square outside the museum at certain times. Entry is 5€ or 8€ if you include the church - includes a good audio guide. Only 2 towers and the walls remain. However it is well worth it for stunning views. If you at all interested in mediaeval Spanish history, doubly worth it.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 3 May 2024
- Tommy C83 contributionsA must seeWe always like to visit historical sites and we're not disappointed with the time we spent here. Ticket includes an audio guide downloaded onto our phones and it was very informative. Many people who lived here left their own mark and there are some lovely gardens in the grounds. We walked up to the top of both towers, easy enough if you take your time. The views alone are worth the climb, we were able to pinpoint the place we stayed in three years ago from the walls. There is a toilet area just outside and a small souvenir shop. The church itself is in need of much restoration but still interesting to see. All in all it was a great day's exploring.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 September 2024

The Alcazaba sits above the town of Antequera and is a Moorish fortress which following the Reconquest became a Christian fortification. It is a climb up from town, so we drove up which created problems for our sat nav. The entry fee includes an audio tour which explains the history of the site and identifies the remains on site. This was very helpful. We also bought the ticket which includes the nearby Colegiata church built to celebrate the conquest.

This is a very impressive site perched on top of the hill overlooking the modern town and is where the town originated.
Being nearly past it, I could get a combined ticket for the Alcazaba and church for just 3e which is a bargain and what’s more, it includes the audio guide which is one of the best I have had, informative but not long winded.
The self guided tour is easy as there is a map provided and although there are quite a few steps all but the very physically challenged should be able to make it.
A very good, very enjoyable hour or so.
Parking, close to the entrance, is hit or miss and there is little of it, I was lucky and found a spot right outside but I doubt I could do it twice, so be warned,

Essential place if you go to Antequera.
It is not as impressive as other Alcazabas but it is worth entering.
Between half an hour if you are in a hurry and an hour and a quarter if you have a lot of time, you can visit the Alcazaba.
They give you an audio guide for your mobile and when you buy the ticket for a little more you can visit the Royal Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor
The views from its towers are the best in town
Recommended time about 45 minutes
Around the Alcazaba are most of the monuments, churches and things to visit in Antequera, except the Dolmens and Torcal above all.

We stopped in Antequera en route to Seville from Granada and really pleased that we did. The town is beautiful. It is devoid of the graffiti that marks so many of Spain's buildings. We walked up to the castle and found it to be an inexpensive and worthwhile visit and interesting . The views are just superb.
We didn't pay extra to go into the church though, it didn't seem worthwhile just to see more church wealth on display.

This Moorish fortress from 14th century is the number one attraction in Antequera. It's located on a hill above the town, the walls are well preserved and it's a quite interesting visit and the views to the town are great. It costs 4 euros to enter (or 6 euros in a bundle ticket with nearby Colegiata).

A jewel of a find with the most spectacular views across the mountains. The climb up the fort and church ,winds through the beautifully well kept streets of Antequera. The audio guide took us around the fort and allowed us to understand the importance of the place. Well worth a visit.
