The Moorish fortress or Alcazar rises above the Puerta de Sevilla, forming an almost impregnable defensive complex - It underwent major alterations in the 14th and 15th centuries. - Restoration work carried out between 1973 and 1975 included the refurbishing of several sections as venues for staging cultural events. - Keep: the tower is solid up to the level of the courtyard and its bossed ashlars remain intact. - Tower of Gold: this tower provides a beautiful view over Carmona. - Prisoners' Hall: this is all that remains of the palace that stood inside the Alcazar. - Patio of Cisterns: in the middle of this courtyard there is an underground cistern excavated in the rock and featuring six skylights.

This is the genuine article, a castle standing on the site that has been used for defensive purposes for 2000 years. Roman arches, town walls, the castle itself, original features and additions through the ages. And from the towers excellent views and internally a storyboard in one room telling the history of Camona. Just €2 entry.

We pit Carmona on our route, to avaoid boring highway,,Wow what a surprise. Fortunately we entered the old town by the tourist office,, And found fore a miserly 2 Euros each we could walk round the Castle. There are so many photo oppertunities. One to do for sure. PLUS, afterwards the town its self is a great place to walk around. Make a diversion yourself, its very good

Even if the style was a bit different and the Alcazar de la Puerta de Sevilla isn’t sitting on the top of a hill, still reminded me to the castles that we visited in Portugal.
The Carthaginians built this veteran fortress in between 237 and 206 BC. When the Romans took over, they constructed the large entrance that is still there. The Puerta de Sevilla is the access to the wall of Carmona, and the Alcazar was built around it. It also called as Alcazar de Abajo(down), since the highest point in the city is the Alcazar of King Don Pedro, that is a much younger building. When you climb up to the tower, there is a beautiful view of the city and the countryside. In the upper patio of this Moorish fortress, you also can see the old aljibe, the cistern. Just to walk around these ancient walls and look up to them is an exciting stroll as well

This is Alcazar Puerta De Sevilla, Carmona! Don't mistaken this with Royal Alcázar of Seville in Seville!
We were doing our research, and released that these are totally diff from the one in Seville itself. Although the name with Sevilla in it, but location for this is in Carmona, not in Seville.
A lot of the reviews here actually mixed them up, and we found out during our research here in Tripadvisor. (For the one in Seville, here's the link: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g187443-d191139-Reviews-Alcazar-Seville_Province_of_Seville_Andalucia.html )
We were in our road trip around Andalusia, and decided to stop at Carmona on our way to Seville. Wanted to give this Alcazar a shot, and it is not that bad. Not as details interior as Real/Royal Alcázar of Seville or Alhambra, but it does give you a panoramic view around Carmona on their fortress.
Worth to check it our when you are in Carmona.

Carmona is a little city with big history and engaging Moorish relics. What a way to enter the city en route for the Parador! Massive and imposing.

Completely unexpected - looks like a gate, but so much more to see once you climb the steps. Also great views over Carmona and surrounds

The Fortress of Gate of Seville (i.e. the gate/fortress that separates the new and old parts of the city. The tourist office on the ground /street level is the entrance and has a brochure for a self guided tour. There is an entrance fee, for €2 pp you can tour the fortress on your own. They have a modest map of the facility that explains the main features.

Reading some of the reviews there seems to be some confusion between this Alcazar in the small historic town of Carmona and the much more well known and larger Alcazar in the city of Seville 30km away.
This building which also acts as a gateway to the historic part of the town also contains the tourist office.
We visited at 5pm which gave us an hour before closing time at 6pm. Entrance was €2 per person.
There is a wealth of history on the site from Carthaginian, Roman, Moorish and Christian times where this small fortress controlled access along a major trading route. There are a number of displays relating to the history of the building and surrounding areas with signage in both Spanish and English but the main pleasure for me was climbing the steps to the top of the tower and enjoying the views over the roofs of the town to the surrounding countryside.

Very nice city to walk around and not far from Seville. Lots of parking all over. Parking in the town center is relatively expensive so look for street parking. If you plan to eat there, find a place first before arriving as there would most likely be a parking space near the restaurant. The good restaurants are not in the town center.

I did not realize that Carmona had so many treasures, but it has a long history and many buildings worth visiting.
The views from the Alcazar are sensational, at least today, on a clear day. Worth visiting for several days for sure.
