Best place to visit on the Costa del Sol
We stayed in the Balcon de Europa hotel in a sea view room it's stunning. Its right on the beach with fantastic views of the sunrise. Love the parrots in the palm trees. A guy with a guitar plays for most of the day then back in the evenings. Nerja is a little hidden gem

    The city centre!
This beautiful structure juts out into the sea and is a focal point for the town. Every visit to the centre involves us having a walk round it as no matter how many times you do it you see something different and wonderful. It is adorned with sculptures and beautiful gardens and really has a classy feel to it. You're never far from a bar or restaurant when you're on it as well so it really is that central. Make sure you take your camera as there are some magnificent views of the mountains and the sea, as well as the beach.

    Christmas decorations on steroids
In December the Christmas decorations and flowers are spectacular adding to an already outstanding view. I would highly recommend checking out this area. We enjoyed sitting in the sun and listening to street musicians in December and found it warm enough to enjoy an outdoor dining experience.

    As wonderful as ever
Whenever we go into town which is often twice a day we always have a walk around this wonderful structure. Every time you do go round it you see something different and it is always a hub of activity It is the main focal point of the town and leads down from the beautiful square with the stunning church on it. There are statues, gardens, plant pots on the wall and so many other things to make it beautiful. The views out to say absolutely stunning and it is a photographer's dream.

    GREAT VIEWPOINT
Fantastic viewpoint, great to visit both day & night. Local buskers playing pleasant music. Great views of the mountains & surrounding coves. Plenty of places to sit down. Can combine with a shopping trip, or visit to the church, near to the tourist information.

First visit to Nerja for us and this spot is just stunning. Gorgeous in the morning, so tranquil and beautiful when all lit up on a night time. Sometimes there is street entertainment, while we were there there was an artist, who was amazing, a young girl playing a harp and other musicians and other nights. Gorgeous place.

We love Nerja, especially around the old town area ,and have visited many times over the last 30 years.
We have stayed at many hotels and apartments. But never this hotel .
Being the festive season, and that this hotel is right in the heart of things we chose to go to hotel Balcon de Europa. It was our golden wedding anniversary,so hoped it would be a special place .
We weren’t disappointed ,in fact we had the most wonderful stay and will always remember it as a special time and place.
We were welcomed at reception by Isaac, who was warm, friendly, and most helpful ,even taking us to find our room.
This overlooked the beach, and was sheltered meaning we could use the balcony every evening after dinner .The room was kept thoroughly clean and serviced.
The breakfasts were varied and delicious. The evening meals were also delicious and were themed giving a good selection of food .The tables were well attended at all times.
On top of all this ,we were treated to an excellent firework display on the end of the Balcon which we were able to enjoy from the comfort of our balcony.
Thankyou to a wonderful team .

Tuesday 10th of May and we visited the coastal town of Nerja. No visit is complete without a walk around the iconic Balcon de Europa.

This clifftop walk was once the site of the 16th century Castillo Bajo (Low Castle). Later on the Castle was altered to accommodate large cannons. It was completely destroyed during the Spanish War of Independence.

Today there are a couple of old cannons on the Balcony directed out towards the Mediterranean Sea.

It was along here that we found the diminutive bronze Statue of Alfonso XII, the King of Spain. The King is accredited with first using the term "Balcon de Europa".

There is also a statue that pays hommage to the boys that discovered the Caves of Nerja. This is alongside an old ships wheel

On either side of the Balcony are the beaches of El Salon and Calahonda.

There are a number of cafes, bars and restaurants around the place.

As well as a delightful place to walk around there are some amazing views of the coastline and the beaches below.

An area that juts out into the sea, high up on the rock face with beaches below on either side. A promenade that is attractive with seating, looking out to sea. In season there are buskers playing music. The place has a buzz and is attractively set, famous attraction of this town. A hotel to one side serving with outside seating. Lively with restaurants opposite. great views along the coast. An area where outdoor events are held

What a totally over rated place this is, the views are dull and at night even with the few coastal lights on, it’s even duller. The tourist office have done an amazing job on promoting this as an attraction. In the Rough Guide of Spain it states there is no reason to stop east of Malaga before Nerja, I would amend it to include Nerja. The Costa Brava and Costa Blanca are far superior to this part of Spain.

The view is impressive, the square itself I would describe as "quite nice". The usual mediocre musicians are also there.
The alleys and small streets are actually pretty to look at, but in the evenings they are so crowded with people, bars and shops that it is not really fun to stroll there.

A 360 degree view of the Mediterranean Sea gives the impression of infinite space. Attention to the smallest details with beautiful white arches, all embellished with characteristic vases of geraniums of a thousand colors. It is an ideal place to take magical moments. Always crowded at all hours of the day
