Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An interesting historical garden in the heart of La Orotava. Worth a visit if you are in the area but not really worth travelling to see specifically. If you are a serious gardener or plantsman you will probably be rather disappointed. The planting is very uninteresting and could be so much better than it is. Whilst he structure and layout is interesting, unfortunately the hard elements overshadow the actual planting. It's a pleasant public space with great views and an interesting history but very disappointing in terms of plants. The small botanical garden next door is fabulous.

Nice gardens with a lovely view and signs telling the story of the monument. Would recommend to visit if you are in the area. When at the top, if you walk left out of the park there is also a botanical garden across the road which is small but convenient to visit after

The garden is large and beautiful.
Well designed, many fountains.
Overlooks the northern part of the entire city.
On a beautiful day you can see Puerto de Cruz from here.
The place and the view are worth the arrival.
Go to the top, where everything unfolds before you

This beautiful public garden -free of charge is a beautiful, well maintained and one of a kind refuge. It is a walking distance form the La Orotava Bus station if you don't have a car. Beautiful rare trees all around you, manicured and well maintained-with a beautiful view of the coast line. There is a slightly steep hill to climb to get there , but well worth the effort.

Hi, just be cautious! Whist in these gardens today I was distracted by a young couple asking for directions. Very pleasant but my wallet was removed from zipped pocket whilst being asked about weather this time of year in England!

This garden in central La Orotava climbs up the side of a hill and offers views down to the sea. It is attractive and well maintained but small.

These gardens are one of my favorites in Orotava. It's perfectly maintained. On top of the garden you can see the mausoleum. Who wouldn't love to be burried on this place?
What a view!

Visited on a cloudy day, maybe full sun would have done the place more justice. Is very evocative of the rich merchant settlers who would have built it for promenades. Perhaps somewhat delapidated or just a bit unloved compared to similar gardens in other places, but still very pretty. It has great views over the town to the sea so a good place to marvel the natural drama of Tenerife. The smaller gardens beside it have a much better curated selection though so if you are a plant aficionado like myself that is the better shout, even if it had a slightly inferior vantage point.

Victoria Gardens is located in Constituición Square (Calle Leon, opposite Palacio Municipal and small-scale Botanic garden of La O) on the historic centre of La Orotava. On the top of this mound you can see a great view over the historic centre of La Orotava and The Mausoleum for Diego de Pinte, Marquis of the Quinta Roja. These gardens were firstly built for the foundation of this mausoleum, because the bishop denied Marquis Diego de Pinte´s christian burial. The expected refusal of Christian burial was already known to the deceased and his family during his lifetime. After the burial was approved, they decided to bury his remains on the Victoria Gardens.
The Mausoleum up in the garden was designed by the french architect Adolph Coquet on the XIX century, if he was also involved in the planning of the garden or even on the choice of plants, there is however no evidence of that, giving it a subtle style due to its great order and care taken into every detail. This garden forms a staggered mound with intermittent fountains and coloured flowers. Sorry to say, I haven´t seen the fountains working when I have visited this garden.
The gardens themselves have their own history, once as a fruit and vegetable garden. One period when the usually very wealthy foreign hotel guests staying primarily for health reasons in Tenerife, used the garden as a spa park. In 1888 a highly regarded horticultural exhibition was held in the park, in the course of which many prominent personalities of the Canary Islands visited the park.
If you’re in La Orotava I recommend you to visit this park with free entrance and a cafe.

If you visit La Orotava then make the time to visit these gardens too. There is a small park in the square outside and the gardens are a few minutes walk from Casa de los Balcones (where there is free parking).
The gardens are a series of terraces with water features and various plants, laid out in a formal arrangement with views of both Teide and the sea. There are toilets on site and a nice little cafe too.

Is there a one-day boat ride and tour of Tenerife, if we leave from Gran Canaria - or is that too far?

Yes, you can book an excellent day trip (picks-up from your hotel) includes the fast ferry (65 minutes) a tour of Tenerife and also includes lunch, this departs every Friday and costs 78 euros per adult with Ok Gran Canaria. Google " OK gran Canaria Tenerife excursion"
