Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The stroll through the parkland by the lake is pleasant enough, although not in itself an amazing experience.
But still worth doing if you are in Sigtuna, as it is very close to the centre of the town.
We played mini-golf, had a short stroll, the kids mucked around in the wooden boat for a bit, but there's not that much there.
There are some free toilets.

Beautiful and serene walks with a view over the frozen Mälaren. There are sights along the view and some signs to read up on history and significance of the town which was the first capital of Sweden. Not too far from Stockholm and you can reach here by the pendeltåg train and a bus from Märsta.

I thought to make my review about Sigtuna as whole, and hope that it will help other prospective travellers before they make the journey here.
1. Travelling to Sigtuna from Stockholm:
Using an SL access card: while you are able to travel to Sigtuna from Stockholm using this card without having to pay for additional tickets, make sure you have enough funds to pay for the trip there and back, if you are paying via SL balance amount. If you have bought the 7 day pass using the SL access card, then you should not have any issues with travel funds.
No SL access card: You can buy relatively cheap return tickets for the day you plan to travel to Sigtuna on the SJ train website. All you need to do is make sure you have the tickets on hand, preferably printed out to show the bus driver when you hop on the buses and to show the ticket master when you want to enter the Märsta train station to go back to Stockholm.
2. Planning times to take the train and bus to Sigtuna:
If you are buying separate tickets for your trip to Sigtuna via the SJ website, you will be asked to enter in a time for the train you'd like to take (which will then factor in bus times for you). Don't let this worry you! As long as you choose the right date that you'd like to travel to Sigtuna, the time you choose for the train doesn't really matter. You're allowed to take any train earlier or later, as seats are not marked. The same goes for buses. In any case, in my experience the Swedes are very nice people, when in doubt, ask, and they will help!
3. Ideally, try to visit Sigtuna on Wednesdays to Sunday!
The information centre in Sigtuna is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. The little town hall is closed on Mondays. The museum only opens at 12pm on Mondays. A lot of the little shops are closed on Mondays. Moral of the story is: Mondays isn't a great day to go to Sigtuna.
4. There is no money exchange centre in Sigtuna, so make sure you've got cash/coin on you before you visit!
5. The Sigtuna boardwalk gives you a beautiful view of the lake, but come rain and wind, the waters get quite rough and the boardwalk is quite slippery! Walk with caution!

What a brilliant day trip from Stockholm even in winter. We took the local train out. Take the local train to Marsta and then bused it from Marsta. We used the local transport card from Stockholm on the whole trip as it works.
What a day even in winter. The boardwalk is stunning with the lake frozen at least 200metres out before coming to water. There are run stones all about so you can see these. Take a visit to the visitors centre to get a local map. The centre is literally 150 metre maximum from the bus stop you get out of.
The board walk is probably 150metres from the bus stop as well.
You can take in the ruins of the old Saint Paul's, if memory services right. The old council house is also there to take a local over which is stunning. Remembering the main street of this town ages back to 970s so the buildings a wonderful. The board walk actually runs parallel and behind the main street. The look out is also a lovely spot but this can be clouded over in winter.
There are a few little restaurants in the old main street which are well worth a visit for lunch.
We thoroughly enjoyed the whole day wandering around and checking out runes, ruins, buildings, boardwalk and many other little things even in the falling snow. It just added to the ambiance of the whole town. Even with a teenager in tow, it was still interesting for all.

I loved seeing the oldest town in Sweden! Not only do you see a old village, old church ruins, and the lake, But you can also look for Runestones. We found 2 just walking around the little town. But I hear there are at least 40 of them scattered around the town.

We took a taxi from Stockholm to Sigtuna because it is hyped as a very old town with beautiful old buildings. It is a small place with essentially one main street of shops and then a "boardwalk" area. Nothing remarkable about it. If you are in the area, it's probably worth stopping there for 45 minutes or so. I would not recommend going out of your way to get there. For the return trip, we took a bus to the train station and got a train back to Stockholm.

The Sigtuna boardwalk is part of a long stretch along a path that takes you all around the picturesque little island. You can bring a picnic and sit by the water, walk, run or bike. An enjoyable place to be for the whole family.

Such a quaint lakeside town just outside of Stockholm. The oldest Swedish town, was worth seeing for the little shops and fun atmosphere. A few hours or an overnight is sufficient.

Are there any ruins or historical markers of the 1187AD invasion of the town?
Written 14 June 2017
However, no archaeological finds (fire layers or the like) from the ravages have yet been found. Possibly, the scriptures have exaggerated the extent of destruction.
