Not a boring museum!

Find excitement where you didn't expect it. Children will love it,too. Do take a bit of your time to visit, you won't regret it.

I visit this museum frequently, perhaps 6-7 times a year to either see the permanent exhibition or the temporary ones. My children (8 and 6 years) have visited it so often, they know it almost by heart. The introduction of new technologies in providing additional context are very simple but very educational. I am particularly found of using the sound... More

This is a relatively small, but fine Natural History Museum with interesting well done temporary thematic exhibitions. Very good for families. Good access by public transport. Profit from your visit to see the (also small but fine) Botanical Garden, next door.

Honestly, I didn't expect a Natural History Museum of such a high quality in a relatively small town like Fribourg. Besides the "usual stuff" you'd see in such museums, worth noting are a huge skeleton of a sperm whale and "bird singing booths" where you can see stuffed birds and press a button to hear their songs. Very interesting and... More

The Museum is nice and family friendly. The exposition is detailed and clear. It has a very good position near to the city centre.

Small museum, beautiful displays, with a focus on art from the medieval period to the present time that fills several connected buildings including a new wing in the old abattoir (slaughterhouse) across the street. The maps of Fribourg through the ages are worth the price of admission all by themselves.

If you're in Fribourg, don't miss this place! The building isn't huge but it's well laid out with very nice exhibits and is incredibly compact with an impressive collection artfully displayed in the limited space. The staff member on site only spoke French (and I only speak English), but he was friendly and welcoming. Hours are a bit limited; general... More

A lesser-known distraction in Fribourg for kids, but a perfect place to get them out of the house/apartment during a rainy weekend (although it only opens from 14:00...uf!) Its not the most world-class museum but it has its charm and is surprisingly comprehensive when you start walking around and seeing all whats on display. Our favorite is the huge mummified... More

I have to confess I am a sucker for Natural History museums :) I love their old-fashioned charm, it reminds me of the long hours spent in the dark corridors of one of those museums during my childhood. The Fribourg Museum may not be an international-class museum, still it offers a very nice experience if you are interested in the... More

Interesting for adults too. Lots of stuffed animals of many kinds, insects, snakes, ..... Around Easter, the museum shows live chicks; the kids love it. While mine were smaller, we went every year.
