Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As a couple of other people have noted, this museum has sadly closed down.. The Temperance Hall is up for sale.

The Temperance Hall Museum closed some time ago. There appears to be a Collection of Costume in a Photographic business on the main street in Kirkby Stephen.

What a fantastic collection of vintage clothing. I could spend all day looking through one of the most amazing collection of vintage clothing for sale. The prices are brilliant and you see lots of vintage clothing that you just don't get anywhere else. Mens hats, suits, shirts, woollens, shoes and much more plus ladies suits, dressers, handbags, shoes, evening wear just to mention a few. Well worth a visit. Open times are Saturday, Sunday and Monday's but phone to make sure.

Well worth a visit to this fascinating museum. Full of garments from all eras.
The lady who runs the museum is very knowledgeable and extremely helpful.
A warm welcome and afternoon tea from real China cups.

This was a fabulous day viewing the most exquisite costumes in a wonderful setting. Our group had morning coffee, a stunning buffet lunch and our day ended with tea and cakes. I would recommend this museum to anyone with an interest in history, costume, good food and superb value for money.

Sadly, the Museum of Costume and Tearoom is now only open for pre-booked private lectures and parties for groups.

I always love visiting Lynn at the museum, the exhibits are beautiful and the tea room is always stocked with fine cakes and lovely china - a proper cuppa. I have bought several very pretty items from the little shop attached but nothing beats having a look at the fabulous dresses and accessories on stands surrounding the tea room. A great place for a nice chat with Lynn, tea and a fun afternoon.

Highly recommend a visit to this small, but perfect, museum. The exhibits are wonderful, but probably not a place for toddlers and very young children, unless they are impeccably behaved, because the costumes are not under glass!
There is a retail section with all sorts of vintage goodies on sale too.
The tea room serves lovely old-fashioned afternoon tea, in real teapots and proper crockery, gorgeous home-made cakes and sandwiches, and offers a lovely experience.
My granddaughters and I went most Sunday afternoons last year and are looking forward to repeating those afternoon tea visits this year :)

The Museum of Costume is free and then enjoy homemade refreshments with table cloths and china in a style to suit the period charm of this listed building. Lynn and Gavin will always make you welcome. Parties catered for on additional days.
