Overview
More
An Italianate Palace in the heart of an ancient deer park. Formal gardens, pleasure grounds, rolling Suffolk landscape and woodlands invite gentle strolls or long walks, runs, bike rides and picnics. The Italianate Garden mirrors the architecture of the house, whilst also encasing an idiosyncratic Victorian stumpery, contrasting light and shade. The Rotunda is home to one of the finest silver collections, family portraits by Gainsborough and Reynolds, works by Titian and Velázquez, and Neoclassical sculpture including Flaxman’s ‘Fury of Athamus’. Below stairs, the Servants’ Quarters recreate domestic service through the stories and memories of those who lived here.

Extremely complicated footnotes in the handbook/website coupled with inattentive staff led to a less than happy experience. Some rooms may be closed for conservation actually meant the whole basement and two ground floor rooms closed today. An absolutely wonderful collection of silver and miniatures, great...More

As National Trust members we visit lots of their sites and this is one of the better ones. A unique building which is displayed very effectively with lots of enthusiastic staff and volunteers. It is a bit pricey for a walk in but nothing outrageous...More

More than happy with our stay in beautiful surroundings. All very elegant. Breakfast met all requirements. Room was very clean and had a very large comfortable bed, a fridge with a small jug of fresh milk for that much desired cuppa. Plus some bottles of...More

The centre piece of our holiday. A fantastic day out for the whole family. Plenty to do and see, with a wealth of history to absorb and admire. the walks around and through the grounds are well worth the effort.

We took the tour of the state rooms but it mainly talked about the paintings. There was another tour round the servants quarters so wished we had done this instead but they both ran at the same time so couldn't do both. However, tours were...More

I'm a member of the National Trust so we tend to visit 2-3 times a year when we are in the area visiting friends. The gardens alone are worth an explore. The house has a lot to see too.

Nice place. We had an Easter egg hunt there. It was good. The kids enjoyed the walk. The parking is a bit expensive

Some areas are suitable. There's an under the stairs tour which is really good. I think I recall a lift. The staff are very helpful so if there's a way they will organise it for you. There's a lovely café.
