- DebbieGibbo1Great Yarmouth, United Kingdom64 contributionsIMPRESSIVE HOLKHAM ESTATE1st visit to Holkham Hall and estate for myself and husband and what a fantastic day. We were met by the gentleman at the car park and he was warm and friendly. As soon as you walked into the House you were immediately wowed by the massive impressive hall and stair case…..absolutely stunning. Every room we visited was impressive and all the staff members in those rooms were so polite and friendly and helpful by explaining the history behind each room and items in it. During our day we visited the Stories, House and walled gardens and as the weather was so beautiful we walked to the Ice House, Temple, Obelisk and also the Coke Monument. The grounds are wonderful with ducks, geese and deer roaming free. We are so glad that we visited as it was such an enjoyable day and the staff are a real asset to the estate.Thank you so much for choosing to visit us and for such kind words. We are delighted that you had a fantastic day with us and hope you will visit again before long.Written 10 April 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 March 2023
- KarlMildenhall, United Kingdom66 contributionsAmazing site and tractor ride was greatReally good impressive first visit, all of the staff were so warm and friendly. The estate was well laid out / sign posted with really good facilities. The tractor ride was absolutely brilliant with a new tour guide for this season, well worth the money and a easy way to see all of the site. The courtyard cafe was very big and had a great range of good quality food in big portions. We will definitely be visiting again soonWhat wonderful feedback, we are so pleased you had a super day with us. - lawgirl83Markyate, United Kingdom2 contributionsExcellentFantastic day at Holkham Hall with our 9 and 7 year old. Parking was convenient and didn't begrudge paying the £5 considering it was free otherwise to enter the park. We started with the high ropes course which I'm so glad we'd booked for the kids as they loved it. It took about 1.5 hours to go round the course (inc. a couple of bonus gos on the zip line). The staff were fantastic with the kids, encouraging them all the way. We had our picnic just outside the courtyard and then rounded off the day with an hour's circular walk past the hall, up to the obelisk and then back to the car park. Will hopefully return to visit the Hall and hire bikes! It's great to hear you had such a fantastic day with us - thank you for sharing your wonderful feedback. Only £5 to park, if you want to visit the grounds and childrens woodland park (not going into the hall or any tours) Great woodland park playground fir children of all ages. Allow plenty of time to see the house, the gardens and grounds. A short film gives lots of background, and a small museum fills in even more history. The Earl of Leicester is on the cutting edge of eco-friendly farming and he is greatly to be admired in this regard.Thank you for such a great recommendation, we are truly delighted to be your Norfolk highlight.Written 30 May 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited April 2023Written 25 April 2023

It is large with woodlands and walks and it would be easy tp spend a long time just wandering. We didn't go into the hall but enjoyed a nice coffee from the kiosk near the childrens playground. There is a car park that costs £5 nearer to all the facilities. Lovely morning - would go back again for longer when back in NorfolkHolkham Park is great for a wander isn't it! - Lucy F1 contributionOutstanding staff and customer serviceOutstanding staff and customer service. Our family had a memorable day admiring the grounds of Holkham Hall on hired bikes. The routes were well signposted with great views. After returning the bikes we walked from the hall (next time we’ll drive as was quite a trek with young kids) to the beach which was beautiful. We left a rucksack full of wet swimming gear and important medication in the grounds of the hall and the staff were incredibly helpful and communicated with us outside of working hours, and posted it back to us saving us hours of driving time. It arrived back at our house with everything including money intact in a short time. A great team work here, we’re very grateful.Thank you for taking the time to post these lovely comments, and thank you also for your card to the team who rescued your rucksack!Written 10 July 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 10 June 2023

Strange to pay for parking when have paid for tour but easy to spend the £30 in shop to get it refunded. Walled garden is lovely and the grounds are beautifully maintained. Restaurant options are alright but frustrating that cannot mix and match food options, who wants salad with lovely sausage roll when looking at chips? We are delighted you enjoyed your guided tour and thank you for your constructive feedback - it is always really helpful to receive ideas from our visitors.Written 10 July 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 June 2023

We had booked in for the Xmas decorations at the Hall but had to cancel due to a home crisis. We requested either a refund or to be able to pass on our entry to friends but despite a pleading email were refused by email and a subsequent phone call.
So BEWARE when you book for 2024 there is NO POSSIBILITY of anything other than a loss of entry fees should you need to cancel for even the most serious of reasons. We live 220 miles away and this was a special visit to Norfolk which we won’t be able to repeat.

Holkham Hall Candlelight was disappointing this year. I expected to go through the entrance door and see all the candles lit. Instead we got rows of Christmas trees with lights.
Carrying on Holkham became just a light show that didn’t have the magic of other years. It just seemed that Holkham had tried a similar show that other places were doing. Holkham in other years was a very one off show and not copied elsewhere. Also missed the standard of music played other years.

We visited this beautiful home at the beginning of December. All the staff from car park to hall were lovely, happy & helpful. We had booked the candle lite tour to see the decorations which were amazing. From the moment we entered it was magical with a lady playing carols on the piano. All rooms were stunning. The lady who took us round was interesting & amusing which made it nice. We ended the tour in the kitchen with Mince Pies & a glass of Fizz. Lovely end to a perfect tour.

The Audience with Father Christmas is overpriced for what it is, an audience to me should be stories read by Father Christmas, him investing time with the children. This had children in a queue waiting for a present (a tree decoration) there was no audience. I emailed the hall about this disappointing experience and the disappointing candlelight experience below and they wrote back explaining that they research regional and national Christmas experiences to check that they are comparable and offer good value. Over the years we have visited Father Christmas' at UK Lapland, Warwick Castle, Lapland, Norfolk Broads Tours, Cromer Pier, Norfolk railways (all 3), Polar Express, Audley End, Wishmas, and many more besides. In my experience this was absolutely awful in comparison, comparing value for money for the experience received.
Very clever marketing, don't be fooled.
The candlelight experience is again overpriced for what it is, the tour guide (whilst lovely) didn't provide any meaningful information about the decor or the history. The rooms were pretty but there were only a handful of rooms viewed. You see them all when going to an Audience with FC anyway.

We visited the Xmas experience and were impressed. First time we had done that although we had been to the hall and parkland many times. A lot of work must go into this. The light presentations were spectacular. We did come after Xmas and so not many people which meant we could see everything and were not rushed.

We attended the candlelight tour. A few rooms nice decorations and Christmas feel but far from impressive and for the money it’s complete rip off. A money maker in my option. Would not recommend.

We're sorry that Holkham Hall by Candlelight was not to your taste. We have had overwhelmingly good feedback but always find all feedback helpful when we're planning future years, so will pass this on to the Christmas planning team.

Holkham Hall by Candlelight was excellent - the 4 of us really enjoyed our visit. Having never been to this event before we cannot compare to previous years. Having been to Waddesdon the previous week and Chatsworth last year, we can only say we were impressed by the offering at Holkham. Staff extremely helpful and pleasant. We thought the chapel was very atmospheric. Entrance Hall - breathtaking
Staff so helpful. Going in the signage for parking could be improved - perhaps illuminate Similarly when leaving, the small exit signs are totally useless - far too small and not clearly seen.

Really enjoyed this tears lighting show and rhe decoration of the Hall. Lady Leicester and her team have surpassed themselves again. Lots of new innovative content but the Pop Art room (it will be a love it or hate it) was rioutously fantastic. Would not be out of place in a Gallery. We'll done to all concerned - a great visit again this year, the guides and staff are engaging and friendly.

The tour by candlelight was wonderful . We arrived in a group by coach and we're met by a member of staff who welcomed us and handed out tickets with a time on to visit the house. Before going in we had a bit of a walk round and a look in the gift shop
When we entered the house we were once again made welcome and entered the marble hall to the sound of a piano playing.
The tour was interesting and decorations amazing. The light shows too were great and I would happily have stayed longer in all of the rooms. The tour ended with a mince pie and a glass of prosecco. Then we went outside to do some carol singing.
The staff made us really feel welcomed throughout the whole visit which was really good.

Visited on Sunday for the Christmas Market. We were staying in Wells so actually walked the 2 miles to get there. We went early as knew it would get busy as the Saturday weather had been dreadful.
We had a lovely bacon sandwich and a browse round the stalls before it got too busy. Good selection of produce and gifts but did start to get very busy.
The stalls were all in a smallish courtyard and it became impossible to get anywhere near the stalls later on. Not sure why they couldn't have spread them out a little more....they have plenty of land to use!
We left after about 90 mins and walked back via Holkham beach. The traffic was queued all the way back to the main road and I dread to think how long they were waiting for.
A nice market, glad it was free to get in otherwise would have been disappointed.

I have lived in Winterton-on-Sea/Martham since 1968 and have never actually made it all the way around the A149 to visit Holkham Hall. So as it is my 75 Birthday we are hoping to come over to see the house on 30th October 2018 in our 1972 White Rover P5 Coupe. Will the house be open 12 - 4pm and can my disabled husband use his small mobility scooter? Thank you for your help. Pam.
Marketing
Holkham, UK1 contribution
Hi Pam, thank you for your question. The hall is only open Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays until 31st October 2018. The hall will be open periodically for Christmas Candlelight Tours (please check our website for dates). The hall will officially re-open for the 2019 visitor season next April.
If you are planning on visiting for your birthday, the hall has special opening hours this week as there are Halloween events happening across the attractions. The hall will be open Thursday 25th, Friday 26th, Saturday 27th, Sunday 28th and Monday 29th.
I'm afraid the hall will not be open on 30th October.
With regards to your husband's mobility scooter - the state rooms in the hall are all on the first floor and access is via a staircase of around 20 steps. We use a machine called the Jolly Stair Climber which will take wheelchairs up the stairs. However, the device only carried manual wheelchairs - if your husband is able to, we would invite him to transfer into our manual wheelchair so we can get him up the stairs.
Please give our ticket office a call if you are still unsure of anything, they will be more than happy to help. The number is 01328 713 111.
Wishing you a wonderful 75th birthday.

We are indeed. Dogs are welcome in the park on leads (there are free roaming deer in the park), they are also welcome in our ticket office, Field to Fork exhibition, gift shop (with lots of dog treats on offeR) and seating area of the cafe and in the walled garden. Dogs are not allowed inside the hall.

There is no nursery, it is a walled garden which is laid out with specimen shrubs, vegetables and flowers. There is an entrance fee as the garden is part of our visitor attraction.
