- stray bullitt8 contributionsFantastic, good old fashioned Sunday lunch, and service. If you're looking for a good pub to enjoy a pleasant meal, the Wheatsheaf hits the spot. A group of six of us booked for a Sunday lunch, with some of our number arriving a little late. Yet we weren't rushed, and the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. There was a choice of small or large lunches, and I can attest that the small is what most of us us would consider a normal generous portion. I had the beef, which was beautifully tender, and accompanied by a good selection of vegetables and a good old Yorkie pudding. To sum up, the ambiance, quality of the food, and the staff, all deserve recommendation. Thank you all.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 11 December 2023
- Jane B8 contributionsGood eveningStarters Crab cake Panko king prawns Absolutely beautiful. Served piping hot with salad and sweet chilli sauce. I can’t even find a niggle to complain about. Mains 20oz T bone. Hubby said it was cooked to perfection for him. Onion rings 100% home cooked. I would say from experience the T bone exceeded the weight specified so a win win there. 8oz fillet melted in the mouth again cooked to perfection. Too much on my plate to finish so another win win. Had peppercorn sauce with one and Stilton with the other. I have to say the peppercorn was the best peppercorn sauce I have tasted. The Stilton was also very nice. All in all a lovely meal. Only thing I could remotely complain about was a cracked plate. I just asked the server to bin it after use. It wasn’t worth a massive complaint.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 April 2024
- Martin DMalton, United Kingdom236 contributionsGreat pubThe pub looks a bit run down outside but don't let that put you off. All he staff were very friendly and the service was good. The place was heaving when we arrived which is always a good sign, even though it was 6.30 on a Saturday night. The food was delicious and the portions were very generous. So much so we couldn't manage a pud. I would highly recommend the Wheatsheaf and wouldn't hesitate to return.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 8 May 2024
- LJP133 contributions"Lovely Sunday lunch"Six of us visited for Sunday lunch. It was delicious. We had provisionally booked for 12:30, however we were politely contacted on the Saturday night to ask if we wouldn't mind changing to 12:00 as they would accommodate us better. The lunch itself was lovely, fresh produce and the quality of the meat was amazing. What we love about the place us that you can order a small, or large plate....even a children's plate too. This not only helps prevent waste, but you don't feel intimidated when a large plate is put in front of you. I managed to also squeeze in a portion of the ginger sponge with ice cream which was lovely too. The service is spot on too. I'm sorry to hear the previous review didn't have such a good experience....we always have.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 July 2024

If you’re looking for quantity and well below average quality this is the place for you. Booked well in advance and paid out for table decorations for a special occasion (suggested by the owner) turned up to find a table with cutlery in a cheap paper napkin and that was it! Food was pretty tasteless and by the time we got the sauce (which was part of the meal) the food was cold. Preordered all the food but were informed half way through at least 5 of the things chosen were not available so ordered alternatives then 15 minutes later were told 2 of the dishes were now available … so fed up by this point I went without. After I’d booked I was told this place had really gone downhill just wish I’d listened. We booked for 5pm but arrived at 3.15 for a few drinks beforehand as it was a celebration after checking the opening hours which clearly stated open 12 till 11pm and told they were closing and we’d have to come back at 5 even though I’d asked when booking if we could arrive earlier for drinks and been told “that’s fine” . I notice the opening hours have now been updated by the owners last week (a little late!) I’m assuming after reading the 2 emails I sent that they deemed not worthy of a reply. Unfortunately ignoring complaints will not make them go away. So to sum up …. A terrible experience both food and service and will never go back or recommend

Four of us booked a table for 1230 today 14/7/24 for Sunday dinner. Half hour delay to taking order and delay again waiting for 1st course to be served. This was lovely then we waited ages for someone to come to our table to see if we wanted desserts but nobody came. My husband asked if we could order dessert and a girl was sent to tell us we couldn’t have desserts as our table booked for others and we had had our time of hour and a half!!. Gobsmacked, disgusted and beggars belief to treat paying customers this way. We are all plus 50 and two in 70s and 80s!. In all our lives we have never experienced this which was not our fault but staff disorganisation. If our order had been taken as soon as we sat and plates cleared immediately after there would be plenty of time to provide us with desserts but we had delays throughout the service. Shambolic and total disregard for our feelings making us settle our bill and go half way through our Sunday meal. This has cost The Wheatsheaf, Hubbards Bridge, Boston any future custom which is really sad as we always enjoyed the meals there. Even last Sunday it was totally overbooked and again though we put our dessert order in we were told our table was wanted in 7 mins. We had to say we were waiting for our desserts and did get them. On a final note the staff actually didn’t give a stuff apart from the poor girl chosen as the messenger.

Now this is a pub I’ve wanted to visit for years. Having seen it many times from a passing train, it’s situated right next to the railway and always looked appealing, particularly in summer when many can be seen sat outside.
So we were really looking forward to visiting when we had the opportunity to try it out for an evening meal. It was a Monday when we called and it was encouragingly popular in the bar, not totally full though and with only a few people in the restaurant type room that could be seen at the rear through the bar. The food coming out looked delicious and I was looking forward to sampling a pint of the local Bateman’s ale on draught.
The problem was however, we were left feeling in no uncertain terms that our potential custom was unwelcome - dare I say a major inconvenience to the staff. To our disappointment we were rudely treated and left a little stunned at first, before deciding to walk out and go elsewhere instead, which I suspect is what they wanted.
So what had we done to deserve this? Well we found a vacant table and looked at a menu. On the table next to us two chaps were ready to order. One of the women serving snapped at them ‘it would help if you placed your order at the bar!’
I got up to the bar to buy some drinks and the other lady serving who passed carrying food snapped at me saying ‘no we come to you’ but then added ‘and we are very busy’ No advice on how long a wait that would equate to though…
When she returned and as we were confused about how to order, we asked do we order drinks at the bar. She came across as stressed and intolerant towards us. Yes she replied and added ‘but I’ve just said we are very busy and there is a long queue…’ The tone of this made it clear that she meant we hadn’t taken the hint and we were an inconvenience.
Being more busy than what an establishment can cope with is a lovely problem for them to have I guess. But just like the unsuspecting guests of Basil Faulty, if you can’t treat your potential customers with respect, regardless of whether you’re under stress or not, they leave never to return.

Food and service has been so good here that we have already visited twice and plan to come back again before we go home. The food is home cooked and piping hot and excellent value for money. The staff are friendly and our dog was made most welcome. Really cannot praise this enough and would not hesitate to recommend. We will most definitely be back.

Review | The Wheatsheaf Inn
🥧 Steak & Ale Pie with chips, seasonal vegetables and gravy
🍤 Scampi and Chips with side salad, garden peas and tartar sauce
This one caught us by surprise. We went to watch Lincoln City away at Boston United in a pre-season friendly and decided to go for food beforehand to make a bit of a day of it. We wanted to visit somewhere on route rather than having to go out of our way and the Wheatsheaf fit the bill. Well, what a fantastic decision!
We'll talk about the meal in a minute, but the Wheatsheaf had a lovely feel about it. Busy, but not overcrowded and it felt like a proper village local but without the village idiot. The staff were very welcoming and we felt at home as soon as we walked in. That's hard to come by nowadays.
On to the food and WOW! it's not often we're caught off guard but as far as homemade food goes, this place is up there was the best we've had so far. Not just tasty, but generous portions too. We were stunned when we saw the waitress bring the plates out.
The Steak & Ale pie was delicious. Yes, even this was homemade ( we asked, and the waitress almost seemed offended we thought otherwise) Delicately crisp pastry with a nice crusty crust surrounded the softest and chunkiest steak we've ever seen in a pie. Served with a generous amount of home-cooked chips that just went so well with pie, perfectly cooked seasonal vegetables and a boat of hearty gravy. What a plate of food!
And same goes for the Scampi too. It doesn't look like we got loads of pieces, but they were chunky pieces, and god they were good! Definitely quality over quantity. Again, served with a sizeable amount of those delicious chips and a side salad and tartar sauce.
if you're in and around the Boston area any time soon, get yourself to the Wheatsheaf Inn. We’d travel to Hubbert’s Bridge from Lincoln just to eat this food and visit this place again, we were that impressed.

Absolutely beautiful. Served piping hot with salad and sweet chilli sauce. I can’t even find a niggle to complain about.

8oz fillet melted in the mouth again cooked to perfection. Too much on my plate to finish so another win win.

Rang up at short notice, yesterday 15th August. Was unsure when first received the menu as it was just one sheet of paper. They quickly explained this was due to a limited menu and they wanted to vary it weekly hence it is subject to a lot of change. I had a large gammon and chips. It was probably one of the best quality and thickest cuts I’ve had. Seemed like it was nicely flame cooked too. Was brilliant. My wife and 2 girls also enjoyed theirs. The kids meal and vegetarian option was also excellent I was told. A must visit.

Booked to have a meal here on steak night this evening as it was recommended by a friend. We both ordered the fillet steaks. It took almost an hour to get our food and when it arrived my fillet steak if you could even call it that was over cooked. I ordered it medium and it came well done. My partners on the other hand was cooked perfectly. When I raised this issue the waiter went into the kitchen returned and said the chef said that mine cooked a lot quicker because it was thinner. Okay….but what will you do about it. No offer of a replacement I had to ask. I then waited another 15 minutes for a replacement steak it arrived after my husband had finished his meal and this time the steak was rare. It seems that they don’t really know how to cook a steak and it’s lucky if you get it how you asked for it to be cooked. Very disappointing after the restaurant being recommended to us. We won’t be returning.

Phoned to book a table. Was answered by a young man who informed me they were fully booked.
As I was staying at the Boston West Close by I went for a drink anyway.
Was greeted by a pleasant young lady who asked if I was staying for food or only having a drink.
So I asked if there was a table free yes was the answer.
So I sat down looked at the menu saw five vacant tables .
Was asked again by the young lady if I wanted food I declined and left.
